Ambulatory Parathyroidectomy for Secondary Hyperparathyroidism at a Large Dialysis Program in Toronto: A Program Report.

PURPOSE OF PROGRAM: Operative wait times for non-oncology-related procedures continue to rise in Canada, and this was further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. These challenges will remain prevalent beyond the pandemic given the limited number of acute care beds and resources required to care for patients. As a result, the need for innovative approaches to optimize the utilization of health care resources while maintaining equitable and timely access is needed. In this report, we describe the development of a collaborative ambulatory parathyroidectomy program between two centers in Toronto

Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) for Interoperability in Health Research: Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: The standard Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is widely used in health information technology. However, its use as a standard for health research is still less prevalent. To use existing data sources more efficiently for health research, data interoperability becomes increasingly important. FHIR provides solutions by offering resource domains such as "Public Health & Research" and "Evidence-Based Medicine" while using already established web technologies. Therefore, FHIR could help standardize data across different data sources and improve interoperability in healt

BACKGROUND: Cardiometabolic conditions-including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity-are highly prevalent among individuals with psychotic disorders. These conditions contribute substantially to reduced life expectancy, diminished quality of life, and increased societal and economic burdens. Thus, effective, individualized interventions are urgently needed. Outpatient psychiatric clinics offer an ideal setting for such efforts owing to regular patient contact and access to multidisciplinary care. We have developed a comprehensive, clinically integrated trial aimed at improving

Statistical Considerations for Research Reproducibility: Strategies for Building Transparent Analytic Workflows.

BACKGROUND: Reproducibility, the ability for independent investigators to obtain consistent results using the same data and analytic procedures, is foundational to scientific integrity, yet remains a challenge across research settings. Common practices such as manual data cleaning, point-and-click analyses, and creating tables by manually copying and pasting values from output to table shells increase the likelihood of error, reduce transparency, and impede efficient collaboration. As data become more complex and expectations for reproducibility from journals, funders, and the scientific commu

This article details participatory strategies in modestly funded, short-term studies that shape larger clinical and translational research. Specifically, we document engagement practices and strategies used in small-scale pilot studies for which the funder required applicants have a community and stakeholder engagement (CSE) plan. Drawing on the broadly-engaged team science framework, we identify practices that facilitate engagement in these studies, challenges, and potential strategies for addressing identified challenges. Investigators can implement many of the identified practices and strat

Comparing the evidence for botulinum neurotoxin injections in paediatric anterior drooling: a scoping review.

Paediatric anterior drooling has a major impact on the daily lives of children and caregivers. Intraglandular botulinum neurotoxin type-A (BoNT-A) injections are considered an effective treatment to diminish drooling. However, there is no international consensus on which major salivary glands should be injected to obtain optimal treatment effect while minimizing the risk of side effects. This scoping review aimed to explore the evidence for submandibular BoNT-A injections and concurrent submandibular and parotid (i.e. four-gland) injections, respectively, and assess whether outcomes could be c
