PURPOSE: The mechanism by which laser trabeculoplasty reduces elevated intraocular pressure in primary open-angle glaucoma has been established. To test the hypothesis that trabecular extracellular matrix turnover is involved, stromelysin expression after laser treatment of anterior segment organ cultures was evaluated.
METHODS: Argon laser trabeculoplasty, using typical clinical treatment parameters, was applied to anterior segment organ cultures. Stromelysin levels and activity were then evaluated at various times by immunoblots of Western transfers and by zymography. Stromelysin mRNA level

BACKGROUND: Autosomal recessive bestrophinopathy (ARB) arises from compound heterozygous BEST1 mutations. Beyond retinal pathology, it may be associated with short axial length, shallow anterior chamber, and refractory angle-closure glaucoma (ACG). Filtration surgery carries a high recurrence rate and may yield suboptimal outcomes in selected BEST1-associated eyes, with the optimal surgical strategy remaining undefined.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 29-year-old female presented with refractory angle-closure glaucoma. Clinical examination revealed bilateral elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) and shall

INTRODUCTION: This real-world, retrospective review of SLT outcomes at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust aimed to establish whether there is any net benefit in using topical drop treatment prior to SLT compared with proceeding directly to SLT as a first-line treatment. Several studies have shown that SLT gives the greatest reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP) for eyes that have not received prior treatment with drops. Here, we look at different topical therapies used prior to SLT and investigate SLT efficacy following these.
METHOD: Data were collected from 196 SLT naïve e

BACKGROUND: Trabeculotome Tunneling Trabeculoplasty (3T) is a recently developed Schlemm's canal-based minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) designed to reconstruct the trabecular meshwork-Schlemm's canal pathway to facilitate aqueous humor outflow, while minimizing disruption to ocular surface structures. Although this procedure is gaining clinical use in China, evidence regarding its long-term efficacy, safety, and anatomical impact remains limited. Few studies have systematically assessed postoperative changes in the anterior chamber angle, which plays a key role in intraocular pressur

Gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) is a surgery that opens the trabecular meshwork (TM) circumferentially after cannulation of the Schlemm canal (SC) with a flexible illuminated microcatheter or suture. The main purpose of this case report was to describe a new complication of GATT. Herein, we report a case of partial SC, TM, and Descemet membrane (DM) separation during GATT. The patient was a 60-year-old man with a history of glaucoma who underwent GATT. SC, TM, and DM separation occurred intraoperatively during 360 degrees trabeculotomy. The separated tissue fragment was r
