Recurrence of the original disease in the renal graft occurs frequently, but it seldom leads to graft failure. In patients with glomerulonephritis as the original disease, graft survival is lower than in patients with non-recurring diseases. Since the use of cyclosporine the actuarial graft survival of both groups became identical. DESIGN: The records of the Liverpool Congenital Malformations Registry and the Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital identified 239 patients (155 male, 84 female) born with aortic valve stenosis between 1960 and 1990. The optimal management of infants with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PA.IVS) remains a controversy. Forty patients with end-stage chronic renal failure received living donor renal grafts, matched at more than 1 HLA haplotype, over the last 25 years. Two hundred thirty-nine patients with carcinoma of the esophagus and cardia were seen between 1971 and 1985. Of 128 adenocarcinomas, 108 (84%) were resected. There were 111 squamous cell tumors, of which 104 (94%) were resected. Hospital mortality rate (3 months) was 19.4% in patients with adenocarcinoma and 14.4% in those with squamous cell carcinoma. Infant mortality trends and differentials are estimated from the 1981 Nepal Contraceptive Prevalence Survey (NCPS) and compared with similar estimates from the 1976 Nepal Fertility Survey (NFS) and the 1981 Census of Nepal. The University of Minnesota has the largest experience with pancreas transplantation of any institution, with 130 cases since 1966, including 116 in 98 patients between July 1978 and June 1985. Between February, 1977, and April, 1982, 168 patients underwent aortic valve replacement (AVR) with an Ionescu-Shiley bovine pericardial valve. Concomitant procedures were performed in 71 patients. There were 12 hospital deaths (7.1%). Among patients having AVR only, there were 5 deaths (5.2%). Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (IHCC) is a rare primary hepatic tumor. Outcomes after resection and the use of lymph node dissection have not been well described. From a prospective database, we identified 53 patients with IHCC who underwent exploration between April 1983 and March 2004.
