We report the case of a 59-year-old male patient suffering from locked-in syndrome (LIS) following basilar artery thrombosis despite an attempt of thrombolysis. Neurological examination showed quadriplegia and aphonia and a state of coma requiring mechanical ventilation was diagnosed. Mutational falsetto is the failure of the normal drop in vocal pitch at puberty. Voice therapy almost always achieves an appropriate pitch; however, in cases of failure, surgical treatment has also been recommended. We report a case of a 47-year-old man with an above-average fundamental frequency and a thin voice quality in the absence of any signs of androgen insufficiency. BACKGROUND: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection has been described in multiple areas of the head and neck. Recently, otolaryngologists have recognized MRSA infection in the glottis. We report a case of conversion disorder, which was initially diagnosed as monoplegia caused by spinal anesthesia. The patient was a 36-year-old, 88 kg woman with a history of psychogenic aphonia. OBJECTIVE: Since 1990, percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT) has been clinically applied as a treatment for autonomous functioning nodules of the thyroid as well as for cystic lesions.
