BACKGROUND: With increasing demand for "double eyelid" surgery within the United States, it becomes prudent for U.S. surgeons to become familiar with Asian eyelid anatomy.
OBJECTIVE: To identify and describe anatomic characteristics of the Asian upper eyelid.

METHODS: Retrospective case series. Consecutive cases of endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation performed by one surgeon during the study period were included. Dental anatomical anomalies having a significant impact on endodontic diagnosis and treatment are the talon cusp, tuberculated premolars, three-rooted mandibular molars, and C-shaped molars. Asian and Pacific Islander ethnic groups have the highest percentage of these dental anatomical anomalies compared to the general population. As the population of Asians and Pacific Islanders continues to grow in California and other western states, dentists should be aware of the diagnostic and treatment complexities associated with specific patient groups.

Between 1975 and 1984, the incidence of trichinosis in the United States (per million person years at risk) was 25 times greater for the Southeast Asian refugee population than for the general United States population. Cases in the southeast Asian refugees differed from those reported previously in the general population in geographic distribution and source of infected meat.
