We report a functional switching valve within the female genitalia of the Brazilian cave insect Neotrogla. The valve complex is composed of two plate-like sclerites, a closure element, and in-and-outflow canals. Females have a penis-like intromittent organ to coercively anchor males and obtain voluminous semen. The semen is packed in a capsule, whose formation is initiated by seminal injection. It is not only used for fertilization but also consumed by the female as nutrition. We describe a rare case and novel management strategy of painful trigeminal neuropathy caused by an arachnoid cyst confined to Meckel's cave. A 57-year-old female presented with several years of progressive trigeminal pain and signs of trigeminal deafferentation, including sensory loss, corneal anesthesia and mastication muscle atrophy. Stable isotopes of hydrogen and oxygen were used to examine how the isotopic signal of meteoric water is modified as it travels through soil and epikarst into two caves in Florida. Surface and cave water samples were collected every week from February 2006 until March 2007. BACKGROUND: Percutaneous microballoon compression (PMC) is a safe and effective method (1) for treating trigeminal neuralgia (TN). Though many surgeons have carried out this kind of surgery, practitioners who lack sufficient surgical experience may be unaware of this method of improving the clinical effectiveness of PMC for aged patients.

PURPOSE: Para-aortic lymph node (PAN) metastasis for gastric cancer is considered a distant lymph node metastasis. Meanwhile, multidisciplinary treatments have improved survival of patients with PAN metastases. We developed a novel technique of curative para-aortic lymph node dissection via infra-mesocolonic approach in laparoscopic gastrectomy (CAVING approach).
