Ovarian Cyst Removal During Cesarean Section: Malpractice or Not?

Ovarian cysts are commonly encountered during pregnancy, often being benign and asymptomatic. However, in some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary. This case report presents a patient who underwent ovarian cyst removal during a cesarean section. We discuss the indications for surgery, surgical approach, potential complications, and outcomes. This case aims to contribute to the limited literature on this subject and evaluate whether this practice is justified or constitutes malpractice.

Rectus Abdominis Endometriosis Following Cesarean Section: A Case Report.

Endometriosis involves the growth of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterine cavity, with its manifestation in the rectus abdominis muscle being exceptionally rare and primarily observed in women with a history of abdominal surgeries. In this report, we present the case of a 42-year-old female with a medical history of two cesarean sections who presented with cyclical abdominal pain and a palpable mass in the right lower quadrant. An MRI scan of the pelvis revealed a lesion on the right lower quadrant of the abdominal wall, proximate to the previous Pfannenstiel incision. A percutaneous US…

Difficult fetal extraction in cesarean section: Number 8 - 2024.

The main causes of difficult fetal extraction during cesarean section are deeply impacted fetal head and floating presentation of the fetus. Studies of management techniques for difficult fetal extraction during cesarean section and the maternal and neonatal results lack scientific evidence, as these predominantly come from case reports, small case series and expert opinions. The deeply impacted fetal head is usually associated with prolongation of the expulsion period and/or unsuccessful attempts at operative vaginal delivery. The main maternal complications associated with the management of …

Necrotizing Fasciitis Post-Cesarean Section Leading to Transabdominal Hysterectomy.

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare but life-threatening disease characterized by rapidly spreading inflammation and subsequent necrosis of the fascial planes and surrounding tissues. Limited literature has described NF as involving an adjacent solid organ beyond fascial planes that has required its removal. We present a case of a 25-year-old white female who underwent a cesarean section and subsequently developed NF involving her uterus and abdominal wall that necessitated a total abdominal hysterectomy, serial surgical debridement of necrotic tissue, and wound vacuum assisted closure (VAC) …

Neonatal physeal separation of distal humerus during cesarean section.

Diagnosing physeal separation of the distal humerus in a newborn can be challenging. Skeletal immaturity and absence of secondary ossification centers make radiographic diagnosis difficult for inexperienced providers. This fracture is seen in the setting of complicated deliveries with excessive traction and rotation applied to the forearm. We report a case of physeal separation of the distal humerus in a newborn as a complication of cesarean section and describe the intervention used and the short-term results.

Accidental intrathecal injection of magnesium sulfate for cesarean section.

Magnesium sulfate is used frequently in the operation room and risks of wrong injection should be considered. A woman with history of pseudocholinesterase enzyme deficiency in the previous surgery was referred for cesarean operation. Magnesium sulfate of 700 mg (3.5 ml of 20% solution) was accidentally administered in the subarachnoid space. First, the patient had warm sensation and cutaneous anesthesia, but due to deep tissue pain, general anesthesia was induced by thiopental and atracurium. After the surgery, muscle relaxation and lethargy remained. At 8-10 h later, muscle strength improved

Aphonia induced by conversion disorder during a Cesarean section.

Aphonia induced by conversion disorder during surgery is a rare event. We report a woman 28 years of age who was undergoing a Cesarean section under epidural anesthesia. The patient sustained aphonia without detected neurologic deficits. Emergency consultations of a psychiatrist and neurologist were carried out in the operating room postoperatively. After a thorough medical and neurologic work-up, the consultative psychiatrist and the neurologist unanimously made the diagnosis of conversion disorder. Thirty-six hours after the operation, the patient's voice started to return. We venture on sha…

[Case report. Post cesarean section laparoscopic cholecystectomy for hydrocholecystitis].

BACKGROUND: Acute cholecystitis is the second most common surgical emergency in pregnant women. Although laparoscopic cholecystectomy has been described previously in these cases, there is still controversy regarding the most appropriate moment in which to perform the procedure. OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical presentation and management of a female with 36.6 weeks of pregnancy and clinical signs of acute cholecystitis. Cesarean section to deliver a healthy newborn was immediately followed by laparoscopic cholecystectomy without complications. A 10 year literature review complements the a…
