INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: A known side effect of intravesical onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox®) injection for overactive bladder (OAB) is urinary retention requiring clean intermittent catheterization (CIC), the fear of which deters patients from choosing this therapy. PURPOSE: To describe a new perilimbal subconjunctival botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) injection technique and its outcomes in patients with refractory neuropathic corneal pain.
METHODS: The procedure involves BTX-A injection into the nasal and temporal perilimbal subconjunctival spaces (10 units per site, 20 units total) under topical anesthesia. Pain levels, corneal sensitivity, and adverse events were assessed during follow-up.
RESULTS: Two patients with chronic neuropathic corneal pain refractory to both topical and systemic treatments received perilimbal subconjunctival BTX-A injections.

The authors have clinically examined the larynges of 117 patients who were successfully extubated in a Respiratory Care Unit, and have examined the larynges at autopsy from an additional 68 patients who failed to survive in the same Respiratory Care Unit. Based on these observations, our understanding of the pathogenesis of laryngotracheal trauma has allowed us to modify our clinical management in order to minimize such damage. Influence of this study on the management of patients is described.
