The most sensitivity to antibiotics was for ceftriaxone (84%), ciprofloxacin (74%), and cloxacillin (72%), and the most resistance for amoxicillin (26%) and the least resistance for chloramphenicol.
CONCLUSION: Some potential pathogens decrease or are even absent after opium cessation. Opium smoking affects the nasopharyngeal flora.

Here, we report that the AraC-family regulator GadX increases multidrug resistance in E. coli through activation of the MdtEF efflux pump. Twenty-one cases of septic pulmonary embolism were selected from a series of 76 patients on chronic haemodialysis diagnosed of S. aureus bacteremia. Ninety percent of patients underwent dialysis through an arteriovenous fistula and 10% by means of a prosthetic access. The most common symptoms were fever (100%), pleuritic pain (66%) and productive cough (55%); twenty-four percent of patients had inflammatory signs at vascular accesses. Congenital malformations of the branchial arches are not infrequent. Among them first branchial cleft anomalies are common and they are to remain asymptomatic. The case reported is one of symptomatic fistula auris, which at the beginning led us to the initial diagnosis of an orbital cellulitis, secondary to ethmoidal sinusitis. We have made a review of the literature dealing with these anomalies and we expose in the paper an update perusal of the clinical features and the management of this rare complication.

Eight cases of septic arthritis occurring in patients with rheumatoid arthritis are reviewed. The difficulty in diagnosis of this condition is due in part to a failure of these patients to respond normally to infection. Consequently patients often present late in the course of their septic episode and treatment is often delayed. The importance of early diagnosis and treatment of the infection is stressed by the high mortality rate in this group of patients. Many factors operate to encourage infection in rheumatoid arthritis and the current concepts of the problem are reviewed.
