Biocompatibility of NeoPUTTY™ versus TheraCal PT® and TheraCal LC® pulp-capping materials, and tissue reaction following subcutaneous implantation in rats: Histological and molecular investigation.

BACKGROUND: Materials used for vital pulp therapy should support the natural healing and regeneration of the dental pulp. Ideally, these materials should be biocompatible, bioactive, non-toxic, and noncarcinogenic. Although numerous medicaments are currently available on the market, none fully meet all the criteria required for an ideal material. In recent years, calcium silicate-based materials, known for their bioactivity and biocompatibility, have gained widespread use in dental practice. OBJECTIVES: This in vivo study investigated the tissue response and biological characteristics of mine

Periapical healing after direct pulp capping with calcium-enriched mixture cement: a case report.

This article describes a successful direct pulp capping of a mature symptomatic mandibular second molar in a 14-year-old girl. The patient was referred with sensitivity to cold beverages and pain on chewing on the second left mandibular molar. Clinical examinations revealed extensive coronal caries and sensitivity to percussion. Radiographically, the tooth was mature and had a widened apical periodontal ligament (PDL) and a narrow periapical lesion. The concluding diagnosis was symptomatic irreversible pulpitis with symptomatic apical periodontitis. Treatment included caries removal under rubb

Selective caries removal and management of exposed pulp in fully developed and immature teeth with reversible pulpitis: a questionnaire-based study in Greece.

PURPOSE: Guidelines recommend implementing selective or total caries removal for managing deep carious lesions without discriminating between fully developed and immature teeth. This questionnaire-based study aimed to explore the perspectives of Greek dentists regarding the management of deep caries and exposed pulp in immature and fully developed teeth with reversible pulpitis. METHODS: The questionnaire presented two cases: one of a fully developed permanent tooth and one of an immature permanent tooth, both with deep caries and clinical signs of reversible pulpitis. Photographs, radiograph

Mental nerve paresthesia associated with an adhesive resin restoration: a case report.

A case is reported in which mental nerve paresthesia was associated with an adhesive resin restoration placed in direct contact with the pulp of a mandibular molar. The restoration was removed, and the paresthesia had completely resolved after nonsurgical endodontic therapy. Epicutaneous patch testing response indicated a possible causal relationship between the filling material and paresthesia.

Changes in Management Preference of Deep Carious Lesions and Exposed Pulps: Questionnaire Studies with a 10-Year Interval among Dentists in Lithuania.

We aimed to investigate changes in management preferences for deep carious lesions and pulps exposed during carious tissue removal that occurred during the last 10 years and identify associated dentists' background factors. The data were collected among dentists registered with the Lithuanian Dental Chamber at two time points using a similar questionnaire. In 2011, 400 randomly selected dentists received a questionnaire by mail, and 153 (38.3%) responded. In 2021, an electronic invitation to an online questionnaire was sent to all members of the Lithuanian Dental Chamber, and 213 (8.9%) dentis

CRISPR-Edited DPSCs, Constitutively Expressing BDNF Enhance Dentin Regeneration in Injured Teeth.

Dental caries, a prevalent global health issue, results from complex bacterial interactions. In response to harmful stimuli, a desirable outcome for the tooth is the formation of tertiary dentin, a protective reparative process that generates new hard tissue. This reparative dentinogenesis is associated with significant inflammation, which triggers the recruitment and differentiation of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs). Previously, we have demonstrated that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor TrkB, key mediators of neural functions, are activated during the DPSC-mediated de

A comparison of two calcium hydroxide agents in direct pulp capping of primary teeth.

Twenty-two pairs of bilateral primary canines, indicated for extraction due to excessive crowding, were chosen to study pulpal response to direct pulp capping with two calcium hydroxide medicaments (Life and Dycal). Following mechanical exposure of the pulp and direct pulp capping with calcium hydroxide, the teeth were extracted after either seven or sixty-three days to determine both the immediate and long-term pulpal response to the medicaments. The results indicate no statistical difference between the two materials in terms of biological response. Favorable results as to degree of pulpal i

Data-driven dentistry: Computational revelations redefining pulp capping.

INTRODUCTION: Pulpal and periradicular diseases stem from immune reactions to microbiota, causing inflammation. Limited blood supply hampers dental pulp self-healing. Managing inflammation involves eliminating bacteria and reducing pro-inflammatory mediators especially MMP-9, which has a significant correlation with pulpitis. s. Flavonoids like Hesperidin, Baicalein, Epigallocatechin gallate, Genistein, Icariin, and Quercetin show potential for pulp capping. AIM: This in-silico study compares various Flavonoids for their anti-inflammatory effects on MMP-9, with Chlorhexidine as a control, a k

Healing of pulp exposures: an ultrastructural study.

The fine structure of tissue changes during the first 14 days following pulp exposure and capping with a hard setting Ca(OH)2 cement has been studied. The early changes included hemorrhage and moderate inflammation which were largely resolved during the first week. During the second week differentiation of cells occurred at the wound surface. These cells had the characteristic features of odontoblasts and formed a predentin-like collagen matrix. The capping material was closely adapted to cellular structures at the wound surface or to the predentin-like matrix at all observation periods. Denti

C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A in a canine model of chronic apical periodontitis.

Increased levels of systemic inflammatory markers have been observed in patients with chronic dental diseases, such as marginal periodontitis. A canine model was used to determine if a systemic inflammatory response was evident during chronic apical periodontitis (CAP). Dental pulps in 10 dogs were exposed and infected with dental plaque to induce CAP. Blood samples were drawn preoperatively and postinfection when CAP was seen radiographically. In three of the 10 dogs, an intravenous challenge of Porphyromonas gingivalis A7436 was given subsequent to the development of CAP. An ELISA assay was

Efficacy of theracal as pulp capping material in permanent dentition: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Vital pulp therapy (VPT) aims to preserve pulp vitality through minimally invasive approaches, including indirect pulp capping (IPC), direct pulp capping (DPC), and pulpotomy. TheraCal LC, a light-cured resin-modified calcium silicate material, is widely used as a pulp-capping agent due to its favorable handling characteristics and bioactive properties. However, its clinical and radiographic efficacy remains insufficiently documented. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of TheraCal LC in IPC and DPC procedures and compared its performanc

Attitudes and behaviour regarding deep dentin caries removal: a survey among German dentists.

Incomplete removal of deep caries has been shown to reduce the risks of pulp exposure and postoperative pulpal complications. It is therefore of interest whether dentists perform one- or two-step incomplete excavation, and which criteria and methods they use to assess and provide removal of deep caries. This study investigated the attitudes and behaviour of dentists in northern Germany using a new, validated questionnaire. The survey included 2,346 practitioners, 821 (35%) of whom responded. Demographic and sensitivity analysis did not indicate selection bias. 50% of dentists considered only c
