[Clinical application of prosthetic wall made by orthodontic band in vital pulp therapy of young permanent teeth].

UNLABELLED: PURPOSE: To investigate the clinical application value of making false wall with orthodontic band when a large area of tissue defects of young permanent teeth is subgingival level and vital pulp therapy is required. METHODS: A total of 60 cases of young permanent molars with large tissue defects to subgingival level and requiring vital pulp therapy were selected and randomly divided into experimental group and control group, with 30 cases in each group. Orthodontic band was made in the experimental group, while traditional composite resin was used in the control group, rubber barr

Risk of pulp necrosis and related complications in the permanent anterior teeth with lateral luxation: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

This systematic review aimed to evaluate the evidence related to the occurrence of pulp necrosis and related complications in permanent anterior teeth with lateral luxation. It was envisaged to address the ambiguity related to the recommendation for pulp extirpation in teeth with mature root apex. An a priori protocol was formulated as per the best practices of evidence-based medicine and registered in PROSPERO. A comprehensive search was performed electronically in PubMed, LILACS, Web of Science, EMBASE, Scopus, and Cochrane on July 10,2023 without any restriction of language or year of publi

The role of the general dental practitioner in the management of the hypodontia patient.

The general dental practitioner (GDP) is usually the first person to suspect that a young patient is affected by hypodontia. The condition occurs rarely in the primary dentition but is relatively common in the permanent dentition. Between the ages of 7 and 12 years, failure of a permanent tooth to erupt as expected will lead the GDP to initiate and then contribute to the ideal management of the patient's condition. This ranges from reassurance and preventive measures to providing aspects of treatment in a long-term management plan, alongside a multidisciplinary specialist team and thereafter,

Present status and future directions: Root resorption.

Root resorption is the loss of dental hard tissue because of odontoclastic action. In permanent teeth, it is undesirable and pathological in nature. Root resorption may occur on the inner aspect of the root canal (internal root resorption) or on the outer aspect of the root (external root resorption). Regardless of its location, root resorption is irreversible, and may result in discomfort for the patient, requires management and/or, in some cases, results in the premature loss of the affected tooth. Root resorption is often challenging to accurately diagnose and manage. The aim of this narrat

[Diagnosis and management of ankylosed permanent maxillary incisors: proposal for a decision tree].

INTRODUCTION: Ankylosis of a maxillary incisor involves evolutive resorption for which clinical management is difficult for both general practitioners and orthodontists. This anomaly can give rise to potentially major aesthetic, functional and occlusal defects. The ankylosed tooth will be lost, in the short or long term, depending on the bone remodeling. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The aim of this review was to determine the different therapeutic options known to date and allow the construction of several clinical decision support systems (summary tables and decision tree). RESULTS: The different

Treatments for intrusive luxation in permanent teeth: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Intrusive luxation is a severe form of dental trauma and there is no consensus regarding its management for permanent teeth. A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to identify the appropriate treatment for teeth with intrusive luxation. The PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, US Clinical Trials, and ISRCTN Registry electronic databases were used to search for articles in English and unpublished studies without a date limit. Eligible studies evaluated periodontal results (root resorption as the primary outcome; marginal bone defects and/or pulpal changes as secondary outcomes) after spontaneou

Topographical evaluation of the major apical foramen in permanent human teeth.

AIM: To determine the distance from the anatomical root apex to the major apical foramen and the position of the major foramen on the root apex. METHODOLOGY: Crowns of 926 human teeth were sectioned at the cementum-enamel junction. Specimens were mounted on microscope slides for measurement parallel to the long axis of the teeth. The major foramen was identified as the largest-diameter opening at the root apex. A total of 1331 root specimens were evaluated using an optical stereomicroscope to an accuracy of 0.01 mm at 40 x (+/-10) magnification. The distance from the anatomical apex to the mo

Permanent molars: delayed development and eruption.

Delayed development and eruption of all the permanent molars is a rare phenomenon, which can cause disturbance in the developing occlusion. The eruption of permanent first and second molars is very important for the coordination of facial growth and for providing sufficient occlusal support for undisturbed mastication. In the case described, the first permanent molars were delayed in their development and were seen erupting at the age of nine and a half years. Severe disparity between the left and the right side of the dentition with respect to the rate of development of molars were also prese

SEQUEL: Prevalence of dental caries in Saudi Arabia: A systematic review and Meta-analysis.

This meta-analysis investigated the prevalence of dental caries throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) between 2011 and 2023 as a follow-up to a previously published review in 2013 by Khan et al. and aimed to provide an update on the current status of caries prevalence in the KSA. A literature search was conducted, and thirty-three articles were included in the final analysis. To determine the prevalence of caries in primary teeth, the 2- to 12-year-old Saudi population was included in the search, and an age range of 6-18 years was used for permanent teeth. The prevalence of caries in th

Dentoalveolar trauma.

Dentoalveolar injuries are an important and common component of craniomaxillofacial trauma. The dentition serves as a vertical buttress of the face and fractures to this area may result in malalignment of facial subunits. Furthermore, the dentition is succedaneous with 3 phases-primary dentition, mixed dentition, and permanent dentition-mandating different treatment protocols. This article is written for nondental providers to diagnose and treat dentoalveolar injuries.
