Parthenium dermatitis manifesting clinically as polymorphic light eruption and prurigo nodularis- like lesions with vasculitis-like picture on histopathology.

Parthenium dermatitis is a widespread and distressing dermatoses in rural and urban India caused by the air borne allergen of the Compositae … ons include a photodermatitis (essentially a pseudo photodermatitis), atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, exfoliative dermatitis, hand dermatitis. Photosensitive lichenoid dermatitis and prurigo nodularis are rarer presentations. Uncommon presentations have been described in parthenium dermatitis. They include prurigo nodularis-like lesions and photosensitive liche …

Clinical Experience Using a Monofilament Fiber Cleansing and Debriding Technology for Various Skin Conditions.

BACKGROUND: Gentle skin cleansing and exfoliation and the use of moisturizers as an adjunct to medical treatment should be part of the prevention, treatment, and maintenance of cutaneous conditions such as acne vulgaris (acne) psoriasis, and xerosis. A monofilament fiber debriding technology (MFDT) is used for effective, safe, and rapid skin cleansing and exfoliation and debris, slough, and biofilm removal. The current review addresses the clinical experience using MFDT for various cutaneous conditions that require cleansing or exfoliation or both and how to combine it with medical treatment.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis due to administration of celecoxib (Celebrex).

A 41-year-old woman was given celecoxib (Celebrex) for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. An erythematous rash developed that progressed to exfoliative dermatitis, and the patient was diagnosed with toxic epidermal necrolysis. After transfer to the burn unit, she was treated with topical mupirocin calcium cream and bismuth tribromophenatein petrolatum gauze dressings. Her wounds healed well. This is the first case report of toxic epidermal necrolysis due to treatment with celecoxib of which we are aware.

Use of a gold compound for the treatment of pemphigus foliaceus in a foal.

A 4-month-old foal was examined because of generalized exfoliative dermatitis, with thick scales, extensive crusting, and oozing of serum. A diagnosis of pemphigus foliaceus was made by histologic and immunopathologic examinations of skin biopsy specimens. The foal was treated with a gold compound, aurothioglucose (1 mg/kg once weekly for 14 weeks). For the initial 5 weeks, high-dose glucocorticoid treatments also was used. The skin disorder resolved entirely after 12 weeks of treatment.

Cutaneous adverse events with antibody-drug conjugates: a FAERS-based pharmacovigilance study.

INTRODUCTION: Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) have revolutionized oncology by integrating the target specificity of monoclonal antibodies with the potency of cytotoxic payloads. However, despite a subset of clinical trials and case reports documenting cutaneous adverse events (CAEs) associated with these agents, comprehensive systematic characterization of ADC-related CAEs remains elusive. METHODS: Data extracted from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) spanning Q1 2004 to Q2 2025 included patient baseline characteristics. Disproportionality analyses-reporting odds ratio (ROR) and

Staphylococcal scalded-skin syndrome complicating wound infection in a preterm infant with postoperative chylothorax.

The course of infection in a 3-week-old premature newborn suffering from extensive dermatitis with flaccid blisters is described. Staphylococcus aureus was recovered from a local wound infection around a chest tube inserted to drain a postoperative chylothorax. The strain isolated tested positive for the eta gene for exfoliative toxin A, the causative agent of staphylococcal scalded-skin syndrome (SSSS). In this case, prematurity and loss of chylus with consecutive lymphopenia may have contributed to development of SSSS.

Adverse reactions with oral and parenteral gold preparations.

Auranofin (triethylphosphine gold), an oral gold preparation, has recently been made available, and along with injectable gold preparations, is of therapeutic value for rheumatoid arthritis. Serious gold toxicity is uncommon, and drug-related deaths rare. Many potential adverse reactions are similar, including dermatitis, stomatitis, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, and proteinuria, generally with increased incidence in the injectable gold-treated patients. Oral gold is associated with benign lower gastrointestinal side effects, including diarrhoea, loose stools and abdominal cramps that are ofte

Frequency of radiation recall dermatitis in adult cancer patients.

BACKGROUND: The re-occurrence of an inflammatory skin reaction which is limited to previously irradiated areas after the administration of a promoting agent is called radiation recall dermatitis. Despite a number of case reports no systematic analysis about the frequency of the phenomenon exists. Therefore we performed an observation study in order to obtain information about this phenomenon in clinical practice. PATIENTS AND METHODS: 142 patients who underwent palliative radiotherapy were included in the study. The skin reaction at the day of completion of radiotherapy was documented and the

Evaluating the safety profile of poliomyelitis vaccines: insights from post-marketing surveillance.

Poliomyelitis (POLIO) vaccines are widely used because of their high clinical effectiveness and minimal side effects. However, as post-marketing surveillance data have been collected, several serious adverse events (SAEs) linked to poliomyelitis vaccination have been reported.Currently, there is a lack of quantitative studies using real-world data, and detailed information about these adverse events is scarce. To fill this gap, adverse event signals associated with the poliomyelitis vaccine were extracted and analyzed using U.S. data. The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) serves as a

Effect of ambient temperature on the clinical manifestations of experimental diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis in a rodent model.

Dermal species of Leishmania have a relatively broad temperature range for optimal growth in vitro, with temperature differences accompanied by a form change. This suggests that when the host is living in moderate temperatures (22°C), infection may proceed at temperatures lower than those that occur in tropical regions (32°C), and a different clinical expression of the disease due to a different parasitic form may result. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of environmental temperature on the clinical expression of the disease. BALB/C mice infected with Leishmania mexicana were

Drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome: suspected association with titanium bioprosthesis.

Drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), also known as hypersensitivity syndrome, is an idiosyncratic drug reaction presenting with fever, diffuse lymphadenopathy, exfoliative dermatitis, and visceral involvement, which may include hepatitis, pneumonitis, pericarditis, myocarditis, nephritis, and colitis. This report describes a 19-year-old, previously healthy man with manifestations of hypersensitivity (DRESS) syndrome after acquiring a titanium bioprosthesis for a spinal fracture. To our knowledge, there have been no prior reports of DRESS syndrome in association with titan

Drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome in a premature infant.

Fever, skin reactions, and limb edema because of drug-induced hypersensitivity have been reported in children because of various drugs, mainly aromatic antiepileptic drugs such as phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepin, and primidone. The skin reactions differ in severity and range from mild maculopapular erythema to exfoliative dermatitis. They have been described in older children but have not been reported in newborn infants. We report a premature newborn infant who developed fever, skin reactions, and edema because of phenytoin while receiving anticonvulsant therapy.
