A preliminary questionnaire consisting of 30 questions was developed to evaluate handicaps in everyday life for 105 patients with dizziness. In the Royal Victoria Hospital dizziness clinic, 1194 of 9767 (12.22%) patients were 70 years of age or older on the day of the first visit. BACKGROUND: Vertebrobasilar transient ischemic attacks (VBTIAs) may present with dizziness. Vocal fold paralysis is rarely associated.
CASE PRESENTATION: We describe an 80-year-old woman with recurrent VBTIAs and new-onset left vocal fold paralysis during an episode.
CONCLUSION: The co-occurrence of medullary ischemia and an aortic arch aneurysm illustrates two plausible mechanisms of unilateral vocal fold paralysis.
