Transrectal longitudinal ultrasonography of the prostate was done for 20 patients with prostatic diseases, 12 with benign prostatic hypertrophy, 6 with bladder neck contracture, and 2 with chronic prostatitis. The intravesical protrusion of the prostate and the opening of the bladder neck, which can be easily recognized by this method, were discussed in relation to dysuria, using subjective symptoms, residual urine, and uroflowmetry (peak flow rate) as parameters. The former was slightly correlated to dysuria, and the latter was definitely correlated to dysuria.

Cystometry and urethral pressure profile were determined in 41 patients (29 males and 12 females) with voiding disorders resulting from cerebrovascular accidents within one year after the episode. The prostatic utricle is a small vestigial diverticulum on the posterior surface of the prostatic urethra. It is considered to be pathological when it is abnormally dilated. Osteosarcoma of the penile bone was diagnosed in a 5-year-old neutered male Rottweiler with recurrent dysuria. Imaging and cytological findings raised the suspicion for an osteosarcoma and ablation of the entire penis and scrotal urethrostomy was performed. The diagnosis was confirmed histologically. A 9-year-old, spayed female, Labrador retriever was referred for evaluation of dysuria. Cystoscopic examination revealed a urethral stricture in the proximal urethra that was dilated by use of an angioplasty balloon (Gruntzig angioplasty balloon) under cystoscopic guidance. Infection from Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) in men with non gonococcal urethritis (NGU) and in women with cervicitis has been investigated by means of Chlamidiazime and serological tests. 32.5% of 120 men with NGU and 8.3% of 12 men with dysuria were positive to Chlamydiazine test. A three-and-a-half-year-old male neutered Siamese cat presented with idiopathic feline lower urinary tract inflammation and dysuria, which appeared to be caused by stricture of the urethral meatus. Wedge meatoplasty was performed, which relieved the cat's dysuria and restored a normal urine stream. To my knowledge, this is the first report of meatoplasty as a treatment for stricture of the urethral meatus in a cat.

A 7-month-old, intact female, German wire-haired pointer presented with a 3-week history of stranguria, pollakiuria, and dysuria that was nonresponsive to antibiotics. Two prior episodes of dysuria-stranguria appeared to respond to antibiotic therapy. Bladder wall biopsies revealed eosinophilic cystitis and the dog responded well to medical management.
