The advent of implant therapy has given new a dimension to dentistry particularly where teeth have been irretrievably damaged or pathologically involved. There are many situations however, where endodontic or combined therapy may effectively retain compromised teeth and clinicians should carefully evaluate evidence-based treatment. The main areas discussed are: transverse and crown root fractures and invasive cervical resorption. Transverse root fractures have an excellent natural healing capacity and will also respond favourably to treatment if pulp necrosis occurs in the coronal segment. Stu

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Natural compounds have gained increasing attention in regenerative dentistry and medicine because of their antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and pro-healing properties. However, their clinical translation is often limited by poor stability, low bioavailability, and insufficient local retention. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) may help overcome these limitations by functioning as autologous scaffolds or local delivery systems. This systematic review evaluated the available evidence on the use of PRP and PRF as carriers, scaffolds, or

INTRODUCTION: Dental implants are a widely accepted solution for tooth replacement, but standardised outcome assessment, particularly patient-reported outcomes, remains limited. Moreover, international variability in implantology practices underscores the need for consistent and comprehensive evaluation tools. This study aims to develop and validate the DEntal implaNt Set (DENS), a standardised tool to capture clinician and patient perspectives on peri-implant health and restorative treatment outcomes.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This prospective multicentre cohort study aims to include 1000 patien

Remineralization of early enamel lesions is a crucial component of contemporary caries management in pediatric dentistry. Biomimetic approaches aim to support enamel repair by reproducing some features of natural mineralization. This narrative review presents the biological basis, mechanisms of action, and current literature on calcium-phosphate systems, nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAp), self-assembling peptide P11-4, and bioactive glasses (BG), with particular emphasis on pediatric dentistry. Although these approaches share the goal of restoring mineral to demineralized enamel, their mechanisms dif

Background/Objectives: Self-injurious behavior (SIB) is one of the most disabling manifestations of Lesch-Nyhan disease (LND), frequently involving the oral cavity and severely affecting patients' quality of life and caregiver burden. Evidence regarding the impact of dental interventions on patient- and caregiver-reported outcomes remains limited. This study investigated the characteristics of SIB in patients with LND and explored the perceived effectiveness, tolerability, and psychosocial impact of intraoral devices and dental extractions. Methods: A questionnaire-based observational study wa

The objective of this study was to make a systematic review on the impact of voxel size in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)-based image acquisition, retrieving evidence regarding the diagnostic outcome of those images. The MEDLINE bibliographic database was searched from 1950 to June 2012 for reports comparing diverse CBCT voxel sizes. The search strategy was limited to English-language publications using the following combined terms in the search strategy: (voxel or FOV or field of view or resolution) and (CBCT or cone beam CT). The results from the review identified 20 publications that

Osseodensification is a novel approach that has significantly advanced the field of implant dentistry, particularly in the context of transcrestal maxillary sinus floor elevation. This technique involves the use of specially designed burs that compact and densify bone along the osteotomy walls, thereby enhancing implant primary stability and facilitating osseointegration in low-density bone. This article reviews the historical evolution of implant site preparation, and the biomechanical, histological, and clinical evidence of osseodensification with a special focus on its application in sinus

Biomimetic mineralization represents a promising strategy to replicate the natural processes of amelogenesis and dentinogenesis through proteins, peptides, ion delivery systems, enzyme-mimicking catalysts, and nanotechnology-based materials. Restoring enamel and dentin represents a major challenge in restorative dentistry due to their complex hierarchical architecture and limited intrinsic repair capacity. Conventional restorative materials can restore function but often fail to reproduce the mechanical, aesthetic, and biological properties of natural tissues and are prone to long-term degrada

Significant treatment variation exists in the Netherlands between teams treating patients with cleft lip, alveolus, and/or palate, resulting in a confusing and undesirable situation for patients, parents, and practitioners. Therefore, to optimize cleft care, clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) were developed. The aim of this report is to describe CPG development, share the main recommendations, and indicate knowledge gaps regarding cleft care. Together with patients and parents, a multidisciplinary working group of representatives from all relevant disciplines assisted by two experienced epide

OBJECTIVES: Despite being a central concept in dentistry, minimum intervention dentistry (MID) still faces a gap between evidence and practice. The aim of this study was to investigate the management decisions of French general dental practitioners (FrGDPs) for occlusal carious lesions (OCL) in 2023 and to compare the results to those obtained in 2002 and 2012 using the same questionnaire.
METHODS: An online, cross-sectional survey was conducted using a precoded questionnaire among the French dental practice-based research network (ReCOL). The structured questionnaire assessed the restorative

The widespread use of cone-beam CT (CBCT) in dentistry has led to increasing concern regarding justification and optimisation of CBCT exposures. When used as a substitute to multidetector CT (MDCT), CBCT can lead to significant dose reduction; however, low-dose protocols of current-generation MDCTs show that there is an overlap between CBCT and MDCT doses. More importantly, although the 3D information provided by CBCT can often lead to improved diagnosis and treatment compared with 2D radiographs, a routine or excessive use of CBCT would lead to a substantial increase of the collective patient

A retrospective study was conducted to determine the outcome of endodontic treatment of incisor teeth in dogs. Medical and dental records from four private veterinary specialty practices over an 8-year period (2013-2021) were reviewed. Forty-five incisor teeth from 41 dogs with ages from 1 to 11-years-old were included in the study. The indications for endodontic treatment were complicated crown fracture in 23 incisors (51.1%), non-vital tooth in 15 incisors (33.3%) and complicated crown-root fracture in seven incisors (15.5%). Evaluation criteria included availability of complete medical and

OBJECTIVES: Treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) using autologous conditioned serum (ACS) has become in recent years an alternative to consider in the approach of the degenerative joint disease of the knee. There is no support in the literature for the use of ACS for the treatment of OA of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), although the promising results obtained in human patients with knee joint disease and in animal studies are opening the way for its use at the TMJ. The aim of this paper is to conduct a review of the published literature regarding the use of the ACS for the treatment of OA in h

Periodontal medicine has generated substantial evidence that periodontal and systemic health are biologically, behaviourally, and socially interconnected. Yet a persistent translational gap remains: knowledge of oral-systemic relationships has advanced faster than the systems required to convert this knowledge into coordinated, patient-centred care. Dentistry and medicine continue to operate within fragmented professional structures, limiting opportunities for prevention, early risk identification, and longitudinal disease management. We propose Periodontal Medicine 2.0 (PM2.0), an author deri

Fluoride remains the keystone of evidence-based caries prevention by stabilizing the mineral balance at the tooth-biofilm-saliva interface. Contemporary understanding emphasizes a predominantly post-eruptive, topical mode of action where fluoride inhibits demineralization and accelerates remineralization. This interfacial catalysis is reinforced by pH-responsive calcium-fluoride-like reservoirs that release fluoride during acid challenges. While community water fluoridation confers population-level reductions, the most effective approach is sustaining low-level fluoride in the biofilm environm

Background: Post-extraction alveolar bone resorption complicates implant planning and compromises functional and aesthetic outcomes. High-power lasers, including surgically applied Er:YAG and Nd:YAG lasers, as well as Nd:YAG-based photobiomodulation (PBM), have been proposed as adjunctive approaches to decontaminate extraction sockets, modulate inflammation, and stimulate osteogenesis, potentially limiting post-extraction ridge collapse. Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis included prospective and retrospective clinical studies evaluating changes in alveolar ridge height, width,
