Brain cytochrome oxidase activity was measured after the in vitro addition of potassium cyanide (KCN) or sodium nitroprusside (SNP). Resistance to sodium nitroprusside (SNP) is uncommon, but its occurrence has led to massive overdoses of SNP and sometimes death.
