Successful laparoscopic treatment for sustained abdominal pain due to fish bone migrating into the neck of the pancreas: a case report and thinking about surgical approach through the literature review.

BACKGROUND: The majority of ingested foreign bodies pass through the gastrointestinal tract smoothly, with less than 1% requiring surgery. Fish bone could perforate through the wall of stomach or duodenum and then migrate to other surrounding organs, like the pancreas and liver. CASE PRESENTATION: We report herein the case of a 67-year-old male who presented with sustained mild epigastric pain. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a linear, hyperdense, foreign body along the stomach wall and pancreatic neck. We made a final diagnosis of localized inflammation caused by a fish bone penetrati

Penetrating oesophageal foreign body.

The behaviour of impacted foreign bodies in the Oesophagus is very often unpredictable. Though penetration with subsequent migration into the thyroid gland is an extremely rare event, with only occasional reports in medical literature, this possibility should always be borne in mind because of the likelihood of serious complications like aorto-oesophageal fistula, subctavian-oesophageal fistula and retropharyngeal abscess. The usual presenting features are persistent pain and foreign body sensation with no evidence of the foreign body on converntional oesophagoscopic examination.

A swallowed sewing needle migrating to the liver.

CONTEXT: Swallowing foreign bodies is a common problem in children. Although most objects pass through the gastrointestinal tract with no untoward effect; long, sharppointed, or slender objects can perforate the gut. Migration of a swallowed object to the liver is extremely rare and very few cases have been reported in the literature up to now. The aim of this study is to draw attention to this subject once again by contributing a case report of a child with hepatic migration of a swallowed sewing needle. CASE REPORT: A 16-year-old girl presented to the emergency room of pediatrics department

Bronchus to Caecum-An Unusual Case of a Migratory Aspirated Dental Implant.

Foreign body aspirations more commonly occur in children and the elderly. There are many challenges in their diagnosis and management, with both acute and chronic complications. Bronchoscopy is the preferred management approach for airway evaluation and retrieval of an aspirated foreign body. The availability of ultra-thin bronchoscopes, advanced imaging, and robotics allows interesting new options for the management of foreign body aspiration. An ingested foreign body tends to pass naturally through the gastrointestinal tract but may also require endoscopic removal in case of complications. W

Thoracoscopic Removal of a Fish Bone Retained in the Lung for Five Years without the Need for Lung Resection: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: The accidental ingestion of fish bones is a common clinical occurrence, especially in regions with high fish consumption. While most foreign bodies pass uneventfully or are removed endoscopically, sharp objects such as fish bones may perforate the gastrointestinal tract and migrate to adjacent organs, occasionally leading to severe complications. Migration into the lung parenchyma is extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: An 80-year-old woman presented with a 5-year history of intermittent hemoptysis following an episode initially diagnosed as bacterial pneumonia. CT revealed a line

Migration of intracranial hemostatic clip into the lumbar spinal canal causing sacral radiculopathy: a case report.

STUDY DESIGN: A case report. OBJECTIVES: A case of spontaneous migration of intracranial hemostatic clip into the lumbar spinal canal causing a sacral radiculopathy and severe low back pain was presented. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Only five cases have been reported in the literature. The first report was described by Oyesiku in 1986; thereafter, four cases have been reported. This serves as the first report clearly describing the relationship between the migrated site of a foreign body and neurologic symptom, as well as achieving a remission of symptom after surgical extirpation. METHODS:

Fish Bone Descending in the Mediastinum.

Ingested sharp foreign bodies rarely migrate extraluminally into adjacent organs such as the pharynx, lungs, and liver. Herein, we report a case of fish bone ingestion where the foreign body followed a unique migration trajectory. Computed tomography revealed a fish bone extraluminally located in the aortopulmonary space in the left mediastinum and peri-esophageal pneumomediastinum. Endoscopic examination indicated no injury to the esophageal mucosa but showed mucosal lacerations in the left hypopharynx. Accordingly, we reasoned that the fish bone penetrated the laryngopharynx and then descend

Migratory Fish Bone in the Thyroid Gland: Case Report and Literature Review.

INTRODUCTION: Foreign body stuck in the throat is a common emergency case, which can be removed by the endoscopic treatment. Fish bones are one of the common observed foreign bodies in the pharynx or cervical esophagus. Fish bones have a risk of damaging the mucosa when lodged in the upper digestive tract. Foreign bodies of fish bones located outside the laryngopharyngeal tissue are relatively unusual, and it is even more rare that they remain in the thyroid. It may cause local infection, abscess formation, large blood vessels rupture, and other serious life-threatening complications when the

Entrapment of a metal foreign body in the heart during surgical procedure: A case report and literature review.

A rongeur had been used to remove thin bones in both orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery, featured with a tip holding and cutting bone effectively while protecting the underlying instruments. The authors describe a case of a 40-year-old man who proceeded with the second lumbar vertebrae osteotomy and presented to be ankylosing spondylitis with kyphosis and limited mobility for 10 years. During the surgery, we found that the rongeur tip was missing. C-arm fluoroscopy showed the high-density body just in front of the vertebral body intraoperatively. However, the CT scan showed the foreign body m

The long and winding road: contact lens-induced ptosis.

Intrapalpebral migration is a rare complication of hard contact lens use. We report a case of a 52-year-old man who presented with right upper eyelid ptosis and requested cosmetic correction. He had no ocular history apart from myopia, which was corrected with the use of hard contact lenses. Prior to the ptosis he recalled losing his right contact lens during a bout of sneezing. He replaced the missing lens and continued to wear contact lenses as usual. After careful clinical examination, an ipsilateral small, mobile eyelid mass was detected, and orbital MRI verified the suspected presence of

Dissecting popliteal cyst resulting from a fragmented, dislodged metal part of the patellar component after total knee arthroplasty.

Dissecting popliteal cyst is an uncommon complication after total knee arthroplasty, occurring mainly as a result of either rheumatoid arthritis or a malfunctioning knee prosthesis. Its association with a failed metal-backed patellar component has not been reported since the introduction of the resurfacing of the patella with this kind of design in 1980. We present a case of a late fracture-dislocation of the metal part of the patellar component that migrated to the posterior popliteal fossa, resulting in a cystic mass formation caused by a foreign body granuloma. The patient was treated succe

A case of choledocholithiasis with an endoclip nidus, 6 months after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

A 69-year-old man developed obstructive jaundice 6 months after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiography suggested a common bile duct (CD) stone. A second operation was performed, and this revealed a CBD stone with an endoclip as a nidus. Since laparoscopic surgery has become a very common procedure, endoclips are used more frequently. Therefore, careful surveillance and strict follow-up are stressed to avoid CBD stone and various other complications caused by endoclips.

False aneurysm of the common femoral artery secondary to migration of a threaded acetabular component. A case report and review of the literature.

A 66-year-old woman with severe rheumatoid arthritis had revision of a protrusio acetabuli component with a threaded socket. Subsequent anteromedial migration of the socket and thread laceration of the common femoral artery resulted in a pseudoaneurysm and massive pelvic erosion seven months later. Vascular reconstruction and excisional arthroplasty were necessary. Later, gracilis and gluteal muscle flaps were swung to fill the resultant pelvic cavity. The hip was nonreconstructable. Ten months later the wound healed and the patient was ambulating in a walker. This represents a previously unre
