Microbiome at sites of gingival recession in children with Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a rare premature aging disorder with significant oral and dental abnormalities. Clinical symptoms include various features of accelerated aging such as alopecia, loss of subcutaneous fat, bone abnormalities, and premature cardiovascular disease. In addition, children with HGPS have been observed to suffer from generalized gingival recession. Whether periodontal manifestations associated with this syndrome are the results of changes in the oral flora is unknown. The present study aimed to identify the microbial composition of subgingiva

Connective Tissue Graft for Gingival Recession in Mandibular Incisor Area: A Case Report.

We report a case of gingival recession in the mandibular incisor region requiring a connective tissue graft. The patient was a 17-year-old girl who visited the Tokyo Dental College Chiba Hospital in 2014 with the chief complaint of gingival recession in the lower incisor region. She had received orthodontic treatment for 5 years and noticed the gingival recession on completion of active orthodontic treatment in 2013. Gingival recession in tooth #31 extended 3 mm beyond the muco-gingival junction (MGJ) and was clinically diagnosed as Miller Class II recession; probing depth was 6 mm. Following

Esthetic dentistry for multiple gingival recession cases: Coronally advanced flap with bracket application.

Treatment of gingival recession is essential to rectify the esthetic and functional deficiencies of the patient and to combat further periodontal destruction. However, treating multiple recession cases is quite challenging, and therefore requires constant modifications of the prevalent treatment strategies as per the severity of the condition. The objective of this case report was to evaluate the effectiveness of coronally advanced flap (CAF) technique without vertical incisions using CAF brackets (CAF+B) for treating a patient presenting with class II gingival recession defects in relation to

Pedicled buccal fat pad graft for root coverage in severe gingival recession defect.

Gingival recession (GR) is a condition resulting in root exposure which leads to root sensitivity, pain, root caries, plaque retention, poor esthetics, and tooth loss. Sites exhibiting Miller Class III and IV GR are not suitable for treatment with surgical root coverage techniques, and their prognosis are very poor with current techniques. In this case report, pedicled buccal fat pad (PBFP) was employed as subepithelial graft technique for root coverage of maxillary tooth with Class III GR defect along with furcation involvement and the absence of keratinized gingiva. PBFP as the subepithelial

Implant-Related Gingival Recession: Pilot Case Series Presents Novel Technique and Scoring Template.

This article introduces a novel protocol for the predictable treatment of Class II division 2 implantrelated gingival recession and presents an innovative acrylic template for scoring the peri-implant soft-tissue gain, used before and after treatment. Ten patients with Class II division 2 single-implant-related gingival recession received combined double-papillary flap approximation and rotated subepithelial connective tissue grafting from the palate, along with any preferred optimal grafting technique that suits the type of preexisting defect. Clinical gingival recession was recorded using a

Periodontal plastic microsurgery in the treatment of deep gingival recession after orthodontic movement.

Gingival recession is a condition that affects a large portion of the young and adult population and negatively affects the aesthetic aspects of the smile. Many factors are related to its development, including orthodontic movement beyond the osseous limits. Many treatment options have been proposed to cover the exposed root surface. The aim of this article was to describe three cases where a subepithelial connective tissue graft was performed, using a microsurgical technique, in the treatment of deep gingival recession after orthodontic treatment. This technique resulted in successful root co

Association of gingival recession and other factors with the presence of dentin hypersensitivity.

Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) may be present in association with gingival recession. The aim of this study was to determine quantitatively the association of gingival recession and other factors with the presence of DH. One hundred and four Japanese subjects with or without gingival recession were randomly selected. Intact canines and/or first premolars in both maxillary and mandibular quadrants were analyzed. Gingival recession was measured as a vertical length at the buccal site of the teeth. DH was recorded as an ordered categorical variable registering four increasing levels of pain after c

Treatment of multiple gingival recession defects using periosteal pedicle graft: a case series.

BACKGROUND: The periosteum is a highly vascular connective tissue with immense regenerative potential. These qualities make it a suitable autogenous graft. A technique is described for using an autogenous periosteal pedicle graft (PPG) for the treatment of multiple gingival recession defects. METHODS: Twenty teeth in six subjects with Miller Class I and II recessions ≥ 2 mm were treated using PPGs. In addition to the depth of the gingival recession defect, the probing depth and widths of keratinized and attached gingiva were recorded. The mean +/- SD was calculated for each of the clinical pa

Correlation between mandibular central incisor proclination and gingival recession during fixed appliance therapy.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether proclination of mandibular central incisors during fixed appliance therapy results in gingival recession. Complete records of 67 patients (39 female and 28 male patients; mean age, 16.4 years; age range, 10-45 years) were used in this retrospective case-control study. Using pretreatment and posttreatment lateral cephalograms, the change in mandibular central incisor inclination was measured to divide the patients into an experimental group (proclination) and a control group (no proclination). Changes in clinical crown length were determined fr

Clinical evaluation of acellular allograft dermis for the treatment of human gingival recession.

BACKGROUND: Periodontal root coverage procedures to treat recession areas are indicated for unesthetic, exposed, and/or painful root surfaces. Many methods, most using autogenous soft tissue grafts, have been utilized, but with associated morbidity at the donor sites. An alternative donor material would reduce the morbidity and provide for sufficient available donor tissue. METHODS: An acellular allogeneic dermal connective tissue matrix (AD) and autogenous palatal connective tissue (CT) were compared as subepithelial grafts for the treatment of gingival recession. Twenty-two patients with si

Gingival recession treatment: guided tissue regeneration with bioabsorbable membrane versus connective tissue graft.

BACKGROUND: Gingival recession represents a significant concern for patients and a therapeutic problem for clinicians. Several techniques have been proposed to achieve root coverage. The purpose of this randomized clinical trial was to evaluate the effect of a guided tissue regeneration (GTR) procedure in comparison to connective tissue graft (CTG) in the treatment of gingival recession defects. METHODS: Twelve patients, each contributing a pair of Miller Class I or II buccal gingival recessions, were treated. In each patient one randomly chosen defect received a poly(lactic acid)-based bioab

Gingival recession. Reappraisal of an enigmatic condition and a new index for monitoring.

Gingival recession (GR) is an intriguing condition. This brief communication, after proposing a definition for GR, considers the possible relevance of anatomical, physiological, pathological and traumatic factors in its etiology. It is probable that no one factor in isolation leads to the development of GR. Because of the possible influence of several factors, not necessarily acting synchronously, the occurrence of GR at a given site may be difficult to explain fully, and any subsequent changes may be hard to predict. The importance of the CEJ (or other fixed point) in assessment of GR severit

Adjacent gingival recession treated with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene membranes: a report of 2 cases.

We report two cases illustrating treatment for adjacent facial gingival recession using guided tissue regeneration (GTR) with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene membranes. The clinical results showed that GTR obtained soft tissue coverage of the root surfaces and was effective in reducing hypersensitivity and improving the esthetics. In both cases, satisfying clinical results have been maintained for 6 to 12 months after re-entry procedure.

[Transverse expansion with plate appliances--their intermolar stability and significance for gingival recession].

This study was undertaken to investigate if transversal expansion with removable plates is a predisposing factor in the occurrence for buccal recessions in the molar region. In order to clarify a possible causal relationship, it is important to know to what extent the therapeutic expansion remains stable, 58 former patients, ages ten to 15, were studied following transversal expansion and non-extraction therapy with removable appliances. Intermolar expansion and stability, clinical crown length, and the incidence of buccal recessions on the incisors and six-year molars were evaluated. The stud
