Evolution of cooperation in social dilemmas under the coexistence of aspiration and imitation mechanisms.

Imitation and aspiration update rules are frequently observed in human and animal populations. While the imitation process entails payoff comparisons with surroundings, the aspiration process refers to self-evaluation. This work explores the evolution of cooperation in dyadic games under the coexistence of these two dynamics in an infinitely large well-mixed population. Two situations have been explored: (i) individuals adopt either an imitation or aspiration update rule with a certain probability, and (ii) the entire population is divided into two groups where one group only uses imitative ru

Systems mapping of HIV-1 infection.

Mathematical models of viral dynamics in vivo provide incredible insights into the mechanisms for the nonlinear interaction between virus and host cell populations, the dynamics of viral drug resistance, and the way to eliminate virus infection from individual patients by drug treatment. The integration of these mathematical models with high-throughput genetic and genomic data within a statistical framework will raise a hope for effective treatment of infections with HIV virus through developing potent antiviral drugs based on individual patients' genetic makeup. In this opinion article, we wi

EEG Microstate Alterations in Anhedonia Subtypes of Major Depressive Disorder and Their Modulation by Intermittent Theta-Burst Stimulation.

BACKGROUND: Anhedonia is a core symptom of major depressive disorder (MDD) and is associated with functional impairment, treatment resistance, and relapse. Emerging evidence suggests that anhedonia severity reflects distinct neural alterations; however, current neuromodulation protocols have not yet accounted for this clinical heterogeneity. We investigated whether intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) differentially modulates electroencephalography (EEG) microstate dynamics across anhedonia subtypes and aimed to identify electrophysiological signatures for treatment stratification. Solvation structure and dynamics of choline chloride-based deep eutectic solvents with isomeric butanediol hydrogen bond donors.

Choline chloride-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are being investigated as redox flow battery electrolytes, where solvent viscosity plays a central role in governing ionic mobility, mass transport, and pumping efficiency. In this combined experimental and computational study, a series of DESs formed from choline chloride and butanediol isomer hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) is examined to probe how HBD molecular geometry affects liquid structure and dynamics while holding the molecular formula and hydroxyl group count constant. Density, viscosity, ionic conductivity, and ET(30) polarity are me

On-road evaluation of sickness-less motion planning in automated vehicles: 'Head motion first' helps!

With the rapid advancement of automated driving, motion sickness (MS) has gathered significant attention from both academia and industry. Advanced sensing, decision-making, and control systems in autonomous vehicles offer promising opportunities to mitigate MS in next-generation transportation. Traditionally, objective metrics such as Motion Sickness Dose Value (MSDV) and Motion Sickness Incidence (MSI) are derived directly from vehicle motion states to quantify MS severity. However, these metrics often overlook the filtering or amplification effects of human body dynamics on the motion stimul

[The role of immune monitoring in major liver resections from the position of the operative trauma and anaesthesia protection level].

Recently, the number of liver resection has increased, which requires adequate and safe anesthesia provision in this surgery area. Cytokine plasma spectrum is the one of the most important indicators characterizing inflammatory reaction intensity during and after surgery and postoperative period flow prognosis. Immune monitoring gives a notion about operative rauma features, liver damage severity, anaesthesia adequacy. Interleukin dynamics evaluation during liver resections is a topical theoretical and practical problem. The aim of this research was to evaluate the interleukins intraoperative

Evaluation of alterations in interstitial fluid dynamics in cases of whole-brain radiation using the diffusion-weighted image analysis along the perivascular space method.

In the current study, we assessed changes in interstitial fluid dynamics resulting after whole-brain radiotherapy using the diffusion-weighted image analysis along the perivascular space (DWI-ALPS) method, which is a simplified variation of the diffusion tensor image ALPS (DTI-ALPS) method using diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) with orthogonal motion-probing gradients (MPGs). This retrospective study included 47 image sets from 22 patients who underwent whole-brain radiotherapy for brain tumors. The data for the normal control group comprised 105 image sets from 105 participants with no pathol

Transmission dynamics of Borrelia lusitaniae and Borrelia afzelii among Ixodes ricinus, lizards, and mice in Tuscany, central Italy.

To estimate the basic reproduction number (R(0)) of Borrelia lusitaniae and Borrelia afzelii, we formulated a mathematical model considering the interactions among the tick vector, vertebrate hosts, and pathogens in a 500-ha enclosed natural reserve on Le Cerbaie hills, Tuscany, central Italy. In the study area, Ixodes ricinus were abundant and were found infected by B. lusitaniae and B. afzelii. Lizards (Podarcis spp.) and mice (Apodemus spp.), respectively, are the reservoir hosts of these two Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (s.l.) genospecies and compete for immature ticks. B. lusitaniae R(

Polysaccharides from Ganoderma lucidum attenuate cognitive impairment in 5xFAD mice by inhibiting oxidative stress and modulating mitochondrial dynamics via the Nrf2/antioxidative axis activation.

Oxidative stress and mitochondrial dynamics imbalance are key contributors to AD pathogenesis. GLPS, an extract from Ganoderma lucidum spores, exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory properties. However, the roles of GLPS in regulating oxidative stress and mitochondrial dynamics in AD remain poorly understood. Here, the underlying mechanisms of neuroprotective effects on cognitive dysfunction in 5 × FAD mice were explored. C57BL/6 mice served as WT controls, while 5 × FAD mice were divided into an AD group and an AD + GLPS group. The mice in AD + GLPS group were administe
