AIMS: Denosumab and bisphosphonates are the main treatments for osteoporosis in residential aged care (RAC). Strict adherence to 6-monthly denosumab dosing is critical as delayed doses can result in bone resorption and vertebral fractures. If denosumab is ceased, then a bisphosphonate is recommended to avoid vertebral fractures. In a multicenter cross-sectional study of 1,308 people with HIV and chronic hepatitis B, adherence to hepatocellular carcinoma surveillance guidelines was 28% among 1,142 eligible individuals. Adherence was higher in those with cirrhosis (66%) than in non-cirrhotic high-risk individuals (24%), highlighting the need to integrate liver surveillance into HIV care.
