Multidisciplinary Telemedicine Care for Tourette Syndrome: Minireview.

Tourette syndrome (TS) is a childhood-onset, chronic neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by multiple motor and vocal tics. TS poses a considerable burden on both patients and health care providers, leading to a major detriment of educational success, occupation, and interpersonal relationships. A multidisciplinary, specialist-driven management approach is required due to the complexity of TS. However, access to such specialty care is often dramatically limited by the patients' locations and the specialists' geographic clustering in large urban centers. Telemedicine uses electronic informat

Health systems resilience and private for-profit sector engagement: lessons from the second COVID-19 wave in Uttar Pradesh, India.

India's second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in April-June 2021 involved an explosion of case numbers, with devastating consequences for the country's already strained health systems. This case study examines the private health market response to the pandemic in Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state. We analyzed 203 news articles to understand both the experiences of private providers and patients in response to government policies being implemented in the state. This analysis informed our interviews with 20 state-level officials, district-level key informants, and formal and informal pri

Improving Access to Patient Education: an Audit of Extant Educational Materials.

Health information exchange between provider and patient, along with patient participation in their care (self-management), can lead to improved health outcomes. A step towards achieving better outcomes is the systematic provision of education materials to patients and caregivers throughout the cancer trajectory. An audit of patient education (PE) materials was conducted at a cancer center to identify content gaps and determine areas for future development. The PE audit was conducted in all outpatient clinics (13) and clinic-specific PE materials were identified, reviewed, and categorized by c

Infant teething information on the world wide web: taking a byte out of the search.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to describe and evaluate the quality of infant teething information on selected popular parenting Web sites. METHODS: Two checklists were used to evaluate the quality of the 16 parenting sites and infant teething-specific content included on each site. FINDINGS: Three of the 16 parenting sites did not contain teething-specific articles. Teething-specific content found on 13 of the 16 sites supported a connection between the process of teething and nonspecific symptoms with a perception that management is required. Popular management strategies incl

Evaluating Chinese Mobile Health Apps for Ankylosing Spondylitis Management: Systematic App Search.

BACKGROUND: Patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a chronic systematic inflammatory disease, require long-term treatment and management. Mobile health (mHealth) apps can deliver health services through mobile devices, facilitate long-term disease management, support patient-health care provider communication, and enable patients to engage in disease management. There are some apps targeted at patients with AS, but the feature and quality of these apps have not been systematically examined. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to identify existing, publicly available Chinese mHealth apps

Community Health Center Adoption of Enabling Technologies to Address Contextual Drivers of Health for Care-Managed Patients: Formative Evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Care management programs are increasingly exploring new strategies to address contextual drivers-social needs that influence health, such as food, housing, and transportation-among high-risk patients. Electronic health record (EHR)-based care management tools can support efforts to manage patients' contextual drivers through screening and making referrals to address identified needs. However, knowledge is limited on how to promote adoption and use of these "enabling technologies" by care managers in community-based health centers (CHCs). OBJECTIVE: To examine how care management s

A comparative analysis of two national tuberculosis reporting systems and their impact on tuberculosis case notification in Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Before 2018, the use of parallel tuberculosis (TB) reporting systems was resource intensive with duplication of efforts and hence the need to select one that contributed to better TB case notification at the National TB and Leprosy Program (NLTP) in Uganda. We sought to analyse the difference in reporting rates between the two systems in order to improve NTLP TB case notification rates, logistics management, and planning for better health service delivery initiatives. METHODS: We conducted a comparative study to assess TB case notification between the web-based DHIS2 and the distr

Study protocol: patient reported outcomes for bladder management strategies in spinal cord injury.

BACKGROUND: The majority of spinal cord injury (SCI) patients have urinary issues, such as incontinence, retention, and frequency. These problems place a significant burden on patients' physical health and quality of life (QoL). There are a wide variety of bladder management strategies available to patients with no clear guidelines on appropriate selection. Inappropriate bladder management can cause hospitalizations and serious complications, such as urosepsis and renal failure. Patients believe that both independence and ability to carry out daily activities are just as important as physical

Evaluation of online health information on clubfoot using the DISCERN tool.

The Internet has become a major source of health information on various aspects of clubfoot diagnosis and management. The World Wide Web becomes the first knowledge portal for a large number of anxious parents seeking information on clubfoot.
