Health Care Merger Enforcement in the 2020s: Policy Changes and Enforcement Continuity.

We evaluate U.S. merger enforcement in the 2020s with a focus on health care merger enforcement under the Biden Administration and the surrounding Trump Administrations. Although federal policymakers across administrations have signaled shifts in enforcement intensity and approach in public statements, when it comes to actual merger challenges in the health care sector, enforcement has been largely consistent. For example, hospital merger challenges have occurred at similar rates dating back to the early 2010s, and have relied on consistent, traditional theories of competitive harm. Enforcemen

[Evaluation of a citizenship-oriented intervention: The Citizens' Project of the University of Recovery].

Objectives The Global Model of Public Mental Health is "global" not only in the sense of having an international perspective, but in regarding service users as actors at all levels of public mental health exerting collective and organized influence on the social determinants of health, in addition to being recipients of care. Having access to appropriate health and mental health care when needed is a fundamental human right. Having a say over the manner in which care is provided, including partnership in decision making in care planning and ongoing care, has gained increasing support among rec

Legal Strategies Countering Federal Public Health Data Purges.

Ongoing efforts among federal agencies to expunge public health data from websites and other media in line with Trump administration directives on "gender ideology" and other themes has led to widespread confusion, angst, and concern among health officials, medical practitioners, and patients. It has also generated legal claims seeking to reverse and stop public health data purges. Framed within statutory or constitutional limits, legal strategies countering these data policies help assure access to core public health information essential to specific services, care, and outcomes.

An assessment of non-communicable diseases, diabetes, and related risk factors in the Territory of Guam: a systems perspective.

Non-communicable diseases (NCD) have been identified as a health emergency in the US-affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI).1 This assessment, funded by the National Institutes of Health, was conducted in the US Territory of Guam and describes the burdens due to NCD, with an emphasis on diabetes; and assesses the system of service capacity and current activities for service delivery, data collection, and reporting as well as identifying the issues that need to be addressed. Adult newcomers' perceptions of access to care and differences in health systems after relocation from Syria.

BACKGROUND: In Canada, approximately 13% of the population lives with multiple chronic conditions. Newcomers, including refugees, have the same or higher risk of developing chronic diseases as their host population. In 2015-2016, Canada welcomed almost 40, 000 newcomers from Syria. This study aimed to (1) understand adult newcomer health needs for self-management of non-infectious chronic conditions; and (2) identify strategies to improve access to health care services to meet these needs. METHODS: This study used a qualitative descriptive design. Interviews and focus groups were conducted wi

Estimating the prevalence of illicit opioid use in New York City using multiple data sources.

BACKGROUND: Despite concerns about its health and social consequences, little is known about the prevalence of illicit opioid use in New York City. Individuals who misuse heroin and prescription opioids are known to bear a disproportionate burden of morbidity and mortality. Service providers and public health authorities are challenged to provide appropriate interventions in the absence of basic knowledge about the size and characteristics of this population. While illicit drug users are underrepresented in population-based surveys, they may be identified in multiple administrative data source

Hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus services offered by substance abuse treatment programs in the United States.

Although substance abuse treatment programs are important contact points for providing health services for hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections, availability of services in these programs has not been well characterized. This study evaluated the spectrum of HBV and HCV services offered by substance abuse treatment programs within the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network. Our survey of substance abuse treatment program administrators covered availability of testing for HBV and HCV; hepatitis A virus (HAV) and HBV immunization; and HCV medical and nonme

Care requirements of people with ARC/AIDS in Rome: non-hospital services.

In Italy, care for people with AIDS (PWA) is centred on hospital services. However, other services are beginning to develop, both in the form of residential facilities and of home care. It seems, therefore, important to define the type of non-hospital services that should be supplied on the basis of AIDS patients' real needs. The aim of this paper is to contribute to the definition of care requirements by administration to 92 persons with ARC/AIDS of a questionnaire on Functional Multidimensional Evaluation to assess the demand for services in relation to the state of health and socio-economic
