[Uterus duplex with hematometrocolpos and ipsilateral agenesis of the kidney].

BACKGROUND: Malformations of the mullerian-duct-system occur with an incidence of about 0.001-0.005% of the population, and they are frequently associated with unilateral agenesis of the kidney. CASE: A 12-year-old girl presented to our emergency department with cyclic abdominal pain which increased with each of her menses. Ultrasound investigation showed a uterus duplex with obstructed hemivagina and hematometrocolpos as well as an ipsilateral absence of the kidney. Additionally, a cystic expansion in the small pelvis was detected which required further investigations (MRT and MR-angiography

Novel management of vaginal chronic graft-versus-host disease causing haematometra and haematocolpos.

Genital chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in women posthaematopoietic cell transplantation may cause vaginal mucosal sclerosis. Human papillomavirus (HPV) reactivation, also common post-transplantation, limits local immunosuppressive, but not oestrogen treatment. A 36-year-old nulliparous woman developed coincidental genital chronic GVHD and HPV 22 months after transplant for aplastic anaemia. Topical immunosuppression for GVHD led to an eruption of warts successfully treated with laser surgery and cone biopsy. She maintained normal ovarian function and used extended cycle combined horm

Pregnancies in women with uterine malformation, treated obstruction of hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of pregnancies in women who had uterine malformation and surgically treated obstructed hemivagina with ipsilateral renal agenesis. METHODS: The study group comprised 21 women with malformed uterus (12 didelphic, 6 septate and 3 bicornuate uterus). All of them had a history of surgical excision of the longitudinal vaginal septum caused obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis. All pregnancies and possible surgical interventions were evaluated during the follow-up period (median 13.2 years). RESULTS: Thirteen out of 21 wome

Outcomes and management of mullerian anomalies in female patients with complex congenital birth defects of cloacal exstrophy and anorectal malformation.

INTRODUCTION: Females born 46,XX with the severe malformations of cloacal exstrophy (CE) and cloacal anomalies (CA) have high rates of mulle … inimal surgical intervention. Post-menarchal hysterectomy reasons included pelvic pain secondary to hematocolpos, desire to discontinue hormone suppression and/or need for vaginostomy, and/or vesicouterine fistula. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates high rates of surgical removal of mullerian structures in females with CE and CA. Further study would be benef …

Missed diagnosis of imperforate hymen later presenting with hypertension.

An adolescent girl presented with hypertension and was found to have haematocolpos and imperforate hymen. She had a background of chronic abdominal pain and had sought medical attention multiple times prior, with the diagnosis being missed as pubertal evaluation and perineal examination had been neglected during those visits. Hypertension resolved following hymenectomy and drainage of haematocolpos with no long-term sequelae.

Characterising acute gynaecological pathology with ultrasound: an overview and case examples.

This article summarises the ultrasound features of a number of gynaecological emergencies: ectopic pregnancy, haemorrhagic corpus luteum, twisted adnexa, pelvic inflammatory disease, acute myoma necrosis, haematocolpos and haematometra. The basis of all diagnosis in women with acute gynaecological conditions is history and clinical examination. An ultrasound examination should only be performed if it is likely to provide information that would change the likelihood of the diagnosis suspected on the basis of clinical data. If ultrasound findings are abnormal, then it is important to thoroughly

Evaluation of Gynecological Mass Lesions Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging: An Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Gynecological masses in females comprise benign and malignant masses. These lesions have become a great concern for gynecologist … en cases of adenomyosis (6.6%). Other non-neoplastic masses were ovarian cysts, endometrial polyps, hematocolpos, and retained products of conception. CONCLUSION: MRI is the sole imaging technique that effectively assesses gynecological masses and addresses radiological challenges. Its non-invasive nature renders it preferable for patients, particularly when …

Congenital abnormalities of the urogenital tract: the clue is in the cord?

Congenital abnormalities of the female urogenital tract are not uncommon, with an estimated incidence of 2-4% across the female population. Within this population, up to 40% will have associated renal tract abnormalities. A previously well 12-year-old girl presented to the emergency department with abdominal pain, vomiting and a palpable pelvic mass. Ultrasound and MR scans were performed. The imaging revealed a didelphys uterus, an obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis, characteristic of Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome. The patient was noted at birth to have a single umbilica

Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome and anal canal stenosis: case report and review of literature.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) is a characteristic syndrome in which the mullerian structures are absent or rudimentary. It is also associated with anomalies of the genitourinary and skeletal systems. There are very few cases reported regarding its association with anorectal malformations, particularly perineal fistulas. To the best of our knowledge, there have not been any reported cases of anal canal stenosis in patients with MRKH. We describe a very rare association of MRKH with anal canal stenosis and multiple renal calculi. The patient underwent corrective surgery for the anomalies
