The chemical composition of the essential oils of Karaj accession of Trigonella foenum graecum leaves was detected by hydro-distillation and analysed by gas chromatography (GC-FID) and gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) apparatuses for first time. Thirty-six compounds representing 95.3% of the total components were identified. The patterns of the main compounds were (2E)-Hexenal (26.61%), n-Hexadecanoic acid (10.14%) and (E)-b-Ionone (7.99%). The Tataouine province in southern Tunisia is well known for its severe pedoclimatic conditions. Using solid phase microextraction (SPME) and gas chromatography (GC), coupled to flame ionization and mass spectrometer detectors, we characterized virgin olive oils from Chemlali Tataouine, Fakhari Douirat, Zarrazi Douirat, and Dhokar Douirat varieties, which grow in the harsh arid region of Tataouine. Hexenal, meprobamate, amidopyrine and ethylmorphine produced a significantly marked effect in animals under hypokinesia as compared with normal rats. When phytin, benzonal and their combination were used for preventive purposes, impaired pharmacodynamics of the tested drugs metabolizing in the liver disappeared. The investigations demonstrated that the preventive use of phytin in combination with benzonal is the most optimal in correcting the impairments of drug pharmacodynamics in hypokinesia.

It is found that hexenal and sodium thiopental in vitro produced a two-fold increase of frequency of chromosome aberrations as compared with the control and this effect was not dose-dependent. The anesthetics under study affected in vitro 3H-thymidine incorporation into DNA of lymphocytes, and a ten-fold hexenal dose intensified 3H-thymidine incorporation. The frequency of chromosome aberrations in vivo was at the level of the spontaneous mutation after use of sodium thiopental and slightly increased hexenal.
