Predictors of postoperative acute kidney injury in patients undergoing hip fracture surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to summarize the predictors of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients after hip surgery. METHODS: A literature search was performed using PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science for studies assessing the predictors of AKI after hip fracture surgery. Pooled odds ratio (OR) and mean difference (MD) of those who experienced AKI compared to those who did not were calculated for each variable. Evidence was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. RESULTS: Ten studies with 34 potential factors were included in the meta-analysis. In the primary anal

MicroRNA-205-5p Targets HMGB1 to Suppress Inflammatory Responses during Lung Injury after Hip Fracture.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Hip fracture is the most common type of injury in elderly people and is associated with a high incidence of complications and risk of mortality. In these patients, subsequent pulmonary infection can contribute to the development of an acute lung injury, a consequence of the systemic inflammatory response induced by hip fracture. Although the crucial role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in inflammatory responses has been established, the functions of miRNAs in the inflammatory responses associated with lung injury after hip fracture remain poorly understood. In this study, we explored the potential role

High energy injury is a risk factor for preoperative venous thromboembolism in the patients with hip fractures: A prospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to identify the incidence of preoperative venous thromboembolism (VTE), and determine if high energy hip fracture affects preoperative VTE occurrence. METHODS: Three-hundred nine patients (244 low and 61 high energy injuries) treated between March 2015 and March 2017 were included in this study. Indirect multidetector computed tomographic venography for the detection of preoperative VTE was performed at admission. The incidence of preoperative VTE was compared between high and low energy injury hip fractures. Logistic regression analysis was used to i

Serum miR-146a and miR-150 as Potential New Biomarkers for Hip Fracture-Induced Acute Lung Injury.

BACKGROUND: Acute lung injury (ALI) and subsequent pulmonary infection are the most severe and usually fatal complications for elderly hip fracture patients. It is necessary to find some biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis of it. OBJECTIVE: This study is aimed at examining the differential expression of miR-146a, miR-150, and cytokines (IL-6 and IL-10) between younger and elderly rats suffering from hip fracture and investigating the possible meaning of them in early diagnosis and prognosis of ALI after hip fracture. METHODS AND SUBJECTS: Elderly rats and younger rats were randomly

Clinical Outcomes of Patients With Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve Injury After Direct Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty.

BACKGROUND: Direct anterior total hip arthroplasty (THA) is an increasingly utilized and patient-requested approach for arthroplasty carrying a unique set of complications. Injury to the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) can have a wide range of clinical symptoms ranging from hypesthesia to painful paresthesia. Long-term effects of this injury have not been well studied. We describe duration and severity of these symptoms and correlate their relationship with hip functional scores. METHODS: Between January 2009 and January 2016, 1665 patients with 1871 hips who underwent direct anterior

Hip joint biomechanics in those with and without post-traumatic knee osteoarthritis after anterior cruciate ligament injury.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament injury results in altered kinematics and kinetics in the knee and hip joints that persist despite surgical reconstruction and rehabilitation. Abnormal movement patterns and a history of osteoarthritis are risk factors for articular cartilage degeneration in additional joints. The purpose of this study was to determine if hip joint biomechanics early after anterior cruciate ligament injury and reconstruction differ between patients with and without post-traumatic knee osteoarthritis 5years after reconstruction. The study's rationale was that individuals wh

Delayed presentation of lateral femoral circumflex artery injury post cannulated hip screw surgery--a case report.

An elderly patient underwent cannulated hip screw surgery for a subcapital neck of femur fracture. Nine days post surgery, she was noted to have collapsed with a falling haemoglobin level. Computed tomography revealed a large haematoma to the thigh. Further angiography showed active bleeding from one of the branches of the lateral femoral circumflex artery (LFCA), which we postulate was caused by the sharp tip of a version guidewire used during fracture fixation surgery. Iatrogenic injury during hip fracture fixation is a rare event, particularly to the circumflex branches of the profunda femo

Sciatic nerve injury caused by pre-operative intraneural injection of local anaesthetic during total hip replacement.

We report a case of iatrogenic sciatic nerve injury caused by pre-operative intraneural injection of local anaesthetic at total hip replacement. To our knowledge, this is unreported in the orthopaedic literature. We consider sacral nerve blockade in patients undergoing total hip replacement to be undesirable and present guidelines for the management of peri-operative sciatic nerve injury.

Newborn with an open posterior hip dislocation and sciatic nerve injury after intrauterine radiofrequency ablation of a sacrococcygeal teratoma.

Advanced prenatal ultrasonography techniques have allowed for better understanding of the natural history, treatment, and prognosis of sacrococcygeal teratomas. Several intrauterine surgical techniques to debulk the tumor when fetal and maternal life are in jeopardy have been described. Orthopaedic impairment, such as lower extremity weakness and swelling, also has been described in association with sacrococcygeal teratomas. The authors report on a newborn in whom a large soft tissue defect overlying the posterior hip region with direct exposure of the disarticulated hip joint existed at the t

Hip Abductor Strength Predicts Injurious Falls and Mediates the Balance Confidence-Falls Relationship: A Competing Risk Model.

BACKGROUND: Falls are a major public health issue, largely driven by age-related declines in hip and lower limb muscle strength. Hip muscle strength plays a critical role in postural stability and falls prevention. Lower balance confidence increases fall risk by restricting activity participation, which may contribute to muscle weakness over time. This study examined the association between hip abductor and flexor strength and the incidence of injurious falls in older adults and investigated whether hip abductor and flexor strength mediate the relationship between balance confidence and incide

Injury-Admission Time is an Independent Risk Factor for Deep Vein Thrombosis in Older Patients with Osteoporotic Hip Fracture.

BACKGROUND Deep vein thrombosis is a common pre- and post-operative complication in older patients with osteoporotic hip fractures. Pre-operative thrombus can increase the risk of surgery. This study examined the association between the time from fracture to admission (injury-admission time) and deep vein thrombosis in older patients with osteoporotic hip fractures. MATERIAL AND METHODS Doppler ultrasound screening of deep lower-extremity veins was performed in patients with osteoporotic hip fractures between June 2019 and December 2021. Clinical data, including medical history, injury-admissi
