Most of the developmental anomalies of inferior vena cava are asymptomatic. The retrocaval and retroiliac ureter, however, commonly present with symptoms due to ureteric obstruction. We present interesting computed tomography images of a 30-year-old male who was symptomatic for right upper ureteric obstruction and the ureter was coursing between the 2 common iliac veins that were uniting abnormally high at the level of right renal hilum with absence of infrarenal inferior vena cava.

We describe a rare case of ureteropelvic junction obstruction in a three and a half-year-old boy due to a benign ureteric polyp. This case is being reported due to the rarity of benign neoplasms of the ureter in infants and children and also because the child had been diagnosed antenatally as having hydronephrosis.

A young female patient underwent ureteral resection and Hynes-Anderson pyeloureteroplasty because of pyeloureteral junction stenosis and a ureteral valve (UV), which caused hydronephrosis. Despite using ultrasonography and intravenous urography the ureteral valve was observed only on exploration. UV should be considered as a possible cause of upper urinary tract obstruction; retrograde urography can be essential.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the diagnostic value of diuretic duplex Doppler sonography in distinguishing between obstructive and nonobstructive hydronephrosis in children by calculating the resistive indices (RI) before and after administration of furosemide.

In 14 women with sympthomatic hydronephrosis of pregnancy (calix diameter 1-2.6 cm) an internal urinary drainage was carried out during the second half of pregnancy. Retrograde stenting was performed following cystoscopy in all cases. Follow up examinations were taken weekly for the first two weeks and further on biweekly. We report a case of left iliofemoral vein thrombosis with extension to the inferior vena cava associated with giant right hydronephrosis secondary to ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Surgery revealed marked infrarenal vena caval compression and deviation to the left side caused by the dilated right renal pelvis, with resultant kinking of the origin of the left iliac vein. It is postulated that the reduction in blood flow caused by this compression and distortion predisposed this patient to venous thrombosis.
