In 1985, we began studying athletic fatalities in Marion County, Indiana (city of Indianapolis, population 779,966) U.S.A. We previously reported the data for calendar year 1985. The reviewed cases include all sudden, unexpected, or traumatic deaths of conditioned, competitive athletes in Marion County. This follow-up is a review of all athletic fatalities in Marion County that occurred from January 1986 through July 1988. BACKGROUND: Advances in imaging, minimally invasive techniques, and regionalization have changed pancreatic surgery. Therefore, the aims of this report are to determine whether the pancreatic operations or the spectrum of disease have evolved at a high-volume center.

BACKGROUND: Trabecular Metal (TM) is a new highly porous material made of tantalum (Zimmer, Warsaw, Indiana, USA). Its three-dimensional structure is composed of a series of interconnected dodecahedron pores that are on average 550 microm in diameter. This size is considered optimal for bone ingrowth and is similar to trabecular bone. In late 2001, during the aftermath of the anthrax letter attacks, model legislation was proposed to relevant state agencies to update their states' public health laws to meet the threat of bioterrorism. This legislation was the Model State Emergency Health Powers Act.
