An efficient kinetic resolution of allylic amines to enamides through phase-transfer-catalyzed asymmetric isomerization was developed. In the presence of a cinchona-derived ammonium salt and K3PO4·3H2O, a series of enamides containing a CF3-substituted chiral carbon and recovered allylic amines were obtained with excellent enantioselectivity and E/Z stereoselectivity. The utility of this method is showcased by a scale-up synthesis and transformations of the products.

The effect of Z-isomerization of (all-E)-lycopene on its solubility in organic solvents and physical properties was investigated. Lycopene samples containing different Z-isomer contents (23.8%, 46.9%, and 75.6% of total lycopene) were prepared from high-purity (all-E)-lycopene by thermal Z-isomerization in dichloromethane (CH2Cl2). Unfolded RNase A is known to contain an equilibrium mixture of two forms, a slow-folding form (U(1)) and a fast-folding form (U(2)). If U(1) is produced after unfolding by the slow cis-trans isomerization of proline residues about X-Pro imide bonds, then the formation of U(1) should be catalyzed by strong acids.
