INTRODUCTION: Additional catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) for acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) reduces long-term postthrombotic syndrome and is likely to represent a cost-effective alternative treatment compared to the standard treatment of anticoagulation and elastic compression stockings. Accelerated thrombus resolution has also been suggested to improve symptoms and patient function in the acute phase. We aimed to investigate whether additional CDT led to fewer symptoms and job absenteeism during the first 6 months after initiation of DVT treatment compared to standard treatment alone.

Our objectives were to determine the reporting of symptoms, the medical outcome and the work status of meat plant workers diagnosed with clinical carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). OBJECTIVES: To assess occupational risk factors for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), we conducted a systematic literature review.
METHODS: We identified relevant primary research from two major reviews in the 1990s and supplemented this material by a systematic search of the MEDLINE and EMBASE biomedical databases from the start of the electronic record to 1 January 2005. Reports were obtained and their bibliographies checked for other relevant publications. From each paper, we abstracted a standardized set of information on study populations, exposure contrasts and estimates of effect.

The sleep apnoea syndrome (SAS) is characterised by somatic, in particular cardiopulmonary and psychosocial, symptoms, the latter severely impairing the patient's social life. Excessive daytime somnolence and the resulting problems severely stress patients with SAS. DOCK8 deficiency syndrome, formerly known as autosomal recessive hyper-IgE syndrome (AR-HIES), is a rare combined immunodeficiency disorder characterized by recurrent infections, eczema, eosinophilia, and elevated immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels. We present a case of a 6-year-old girl with DOCK8 deficiency syndrome, who experienced recurrent skin infections and molluscum contagiosum since infancy. Genetic testing confirmed the diagnosis. Due to the high morbidity and mortality associated with DOCK8 deficiency syndrome, she underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) from her father.

BACKGROUND: The hyperimmunoglobulinemia E syndrome is a serious disorder of an unknown etiology without effective treatment. Cyclosporin A has immunosuppressive properties. Its effect in a patient with hyperimmunoglobulinemia E syndrome was evaluated.
METHODS: We report a 3-year-old boy with severe hyperimmunoglobulinemia E syndrome in whom various therapeutic modalities were ineffective. He was started on cyclosporin A 3 mg/kg/d for 6 months.
