The ulcerated papules of cutaneous leishmaniasis represent an unusual form of granulomatous dermatitis caused by Leishmania species, a protozoan transmitted by sandfly bites. As the disease is not native to North America, clinical suspicion is partially based on a compatible travel history and may result in a biopsy. A total of 60 HIV infected patients complaining of dry cough for at least two weeks and attending the Out-patient Department of the Specialist Hospital, Waibargi, were screened for Pneumocystis carinii. Induced sputum samples were examined with Giemsa and Gomori silver methenamine stains. P. carinii were detected in 18 patients (30%) with silver stain and 13 patients (21.7%) with Giemsa stain. BACKGROUND: Formaldehyde (FA) and formaldehyde-releasers (FRs) are well-known causes of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Following the 2019 EU ban on FA and Quaternium-15 in cosmetics, stable or slightly decreasing sensitisation rates have been reported. In Turkey, both were banned in 2021.
OBJECTIVES: To assess FA/FR sensitisation and ACD rates before and after the ban, and evaluate the role of FA as a marker for FR allergy.
METHODS: A single-centre retrospective cohort of 2592 patients patch tested with FA 1% or 2% aq. and at least one FR between 1996 and 2024.

A monoclonal antibody (MAb), designated 3gJC9, was raised against a protein antigen of Aphanomyces invadans, the oomycete pathogen that causes epizootic ulcerative syndrome (EUS). The antigen was expressed on the surface of hyphae and secreted extracellularly. MAb 3gJC9 did not cross-react with other oomycete or fungal pathogens of fish, although it did react to the crayfish plague pathogen A. astaci. In this study, a novel and green synthesis of a new hydrophilic molecularly imprinted 3-aminophenol-hexamethylenetetramine (MIAPH) resin for the selective recognition and separation of plant hormones was developed.
