Edge-light pupil cycle time has been introduced recently as a simple method for examining parasympathetic pupillary innervation. Since the sympathetic system is not thought to be involved in the light reflex, it was assumed that edge-light pupil cycle time would be unimpaired in lesions of the sympathetic pathways. In 12 patients with unilateral Horner's syndrome of different etiologies, the edge-light pupil cycle time was determined in both eyes. IMPORTANCE: Uncorrected refractive error is the most common cause of vision impairment in children. Most children 12 years or older can achieve visual acuity (VA) of 20/25 or better by self-refraction using adjustable-focus spectacles, but data on younger children are lacking.
OBJECTIVE: To assess refractive accuracy, corrected VA, and factors associated with not achieving VA of 20/25 or better among children aged 5 to 11 years performing self-refraction with Adspecs adjustable-focus spectacles (Adaptive Eyecare), compared with noncycloplegic autorefraction and cycloplegic refraction.

Amblyopia has a 1.6-3.6% prevalence, higher in the medically underserved. It is more complex than simply visual acuity loss and the better eye has sub-clinical deficits. Functional limitations appear more extensive and loss of vision in the better eye of amblyopes more prevalent than previously thought. PURPOSE: Mydriasert is an insoluble ophthalmic insert, gradually releasing two well-known active ingredients: phenylephrine and tropicamide. It is indicated in presurgical mydriasis. The purpose was to evaluate its efficacy in obtaining mydriasis required for fluorescein angiography.

PURPOSE: To describe a simple technique that uses posterior chandelier illumination during Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty in cases of severe bullous keratopathy (BK).
METHODS: Five eyes of 4 patients with advanced BK undergoing Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty were retrospectively analyzed. AIM: This report describes our 5 years of experience with the ophthalmological diabetes telemedical network Ophdiat(®), designed to screen for diabetic retinopathy.
METHODS: Seventeen hospitals, 11 primary healthcare centres and two prisons in the Paris area were gradually equipped with a non-mydriatic funduscopic camera between June 2004 and December 2009. Photos were taken by trained orthoptists and nurses, and interpreted by an average of seven certified ophthalmologists. The software was updated twice in 2008.
