[Cephalometry efficacy in orthodontic treatment planning: correlations of cephalometric values and their changes in the course of treatment].

The aim of the study was to assess the efficacy of cephalometry in planning of orthodontic patients with teeth crowding (TC) and Angle Class I molar relationship (MR). Cephalometric values of 70 patients with TC and class I MR were analyzed before and after orthodontic treatment. Cephalometric study of correlations proved to be more relevant than comparing with mean values. In patients with TC and class I MR statistically significant were correlations with: facial profile (ÐN-A-B) and jaws relationship in anterio-posterior direction (ÐA-N-B); ÐN-A-B and type of maxillary growth (ÐPn-Mp, ÐB); Ð

Knowledge, attitudes and practices of orthodontists regarding orthodontic treatment of traumatized teeth: a systematic review.

PURPOSE: To assess the global status of the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of orthodontists regarding the orthodontic treatment of traumatized teeth. METHODS: An a priori protocol was developed and registered (PROSPERO, CRD42022342038). The literature search based on the Population, Intervention, Comparator, and Outcome (PICO) elements of the research question was developed and conducted electronically in PubMed, LILACS, Web of Science, EMBASE, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library, up to 31st August 2024. Gray literature and reference searches were also performed. Titles and abstracts were s

A Cross-Sectional Evaluation of the Association between Orthodontic Treatment, Retention Modality and the Prevalence of Gingival Recession.

PURPOSE: The prevalence of gingival recession in orthodontically treated patients and the relative impact of retainer type on its occurrence remain poorly understood. The objective of this study was to investigate the association between previous orthodontic treatment and retainer type on the long-term prevalence of gingival recession and to evaluate the role of other patient-related factors, such as gender, age, smoking and gingival phenotype. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We included subjects both with and without a history of previous orthodontics (at least 5 years post-treatment). The periodonta

Orthodontic treatment quality evaluated by partially automated digital IOTN and PAR index determination: a retrospective multicentre study.

BACKGROUND: Orthodontic therapy aims to treat misaligned teeth and jaws to improve dental occlusion as well as the function and aesthetics of the masticatory system. Continuous data collection to check treatment quality is of great importance for the constant optimization of orthodontic care. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this retrospective multicentre cohort study was to systematically determine the outcome and quality of orthodontic treatment by applying the internationally established Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) and Peer Assessment Rating (PAR) index in multiple clinical settings fo

Factors influencing treatment outcomes assessed by the American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System (ABO-OGS).

BACKGROUND: Treatment outcomes can be influenced by various factors. This study aimed to determine the association between predisposing patient- and treatment-related factors (demographic, cephalometric parameters, skeletal relationships, Discrepancy Index (DI), extractions, treatment type and duration) and treatment outcomes measures according to the American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System index (ABO-OGS). METHODS: Completed cases (N = 100) were included in this cross-sectional study. One calibrated examiner assessed DI, pretreatment lateral cephalometric parameters and ABO-O

Mandibular propulsion appliance for adults with Class II malocclusion: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The effects of mandibular propulsion appliances in adults have some controversial results. While some authors claim that its use in non-growing patients could produce some dentoskeletal effects, other studies indicate that Class II correction occurs only through significant dental effects. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects in non-growing Class II patients with mandibular retrusion, promoted by the treatment with mandibular propulsion appliances and determine if they produce mandibular changes. METHODS: The research was carried out in nine electronic databases and additional manu

Prevalence and factors related to malocclusion, normative and perceived orthodontic treatment need among children and adolescents in Bangladesh.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the present study was to assess the prevalence of normative and perceived orthodontic treatment need in schoolchildren and adolescents, related risk factors, and children/parent's aesthetic perception, compared to orthodontist's opinion, in Dhaka city, Bangladesh. METHODS: A random sample of 800 schoolchildren aging 11-15 years was selected from different schools in the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Dental Health Component (DHC) and Aesthetic Component (AC) of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) were assessed as normative treatment need. The Decayed, Miss

Begg's mechanotherapy: Revisited!!!!!!!!!!

The Begg's light wire technique is a simple technique that is capable of producing good results with minimum efforts. It is an easy technique requiring a simplistic diagnosis and stereotype treatment. However, it lost popularity due to its projection as a "cook book" treatment and an overemphasis on extractions, based on theory of attritional occlusion. Here, a review is presented on various cases treated with Begg's mechanotherapy encompassing its advantages and disadvantages.

[Investigation of the possible factors related to root resorption during orthodontic treatment in adolescents].

Currently, a very important thread of research on COVID-19 is to determine the dimension of the psychopathological emotional reactions induced by the COVID-19 pandemic. A non-experimental online research project was designed to determine the predictors of the severity of psychopathological symptoms, such as depression and PTSD symptoms, and the nature of the feedback mechanism between them in groups of men, remaining in hospital isolation due to infection and at-home isolation during the COVID-19 epidemic. The presence of symptoms of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and a sens

[Uprighting of mesially or horizontally impacted mandibular molars].

OBJECTIVE: To assess the treatment method and outcome of mesially or horizontally impacted mandibular molars. METHODS: Eleven patients with mandibular impacted molars, including 9 horizontally impacted molars and 5 mesially impacted molars were treated with fixed appliance in conjunction with molar band soldered with pushing spring. Crowns of impacted molars were moved occlusally and distally. RESULTS: All mesially or horizontally mandibular impacted molars were uprighted and brought into occlusion. Mean treatment period was 7.4 months (6 to 12 months). CONCLUSIONS: This orthodontic molar u

[Unilateral space-creating extraction in orthodontics].

Space maintaining extraction on one side is a controversial point in orthodontics, yet relevant references in literature are only few and far between. The author has summed up the attitudes towards the unilateral Space maintaining extraction by levelling. Among other things, he emphasizes the importance of avoiding extraction on one side, however when in one quadrant there is smaller room than that of a pre-molar would occupy, an extraction as a concession might be made. When making extraction distal removal is indicated (in such cases the extraction of a molar is also possible) and to avoid n
