Hookworm infection is common but has rarely been reported in neonates or infants. Two cases of hookworm infestation in early infancy are described. The infants presented with malena, severe pallor, lethargy and failure to gain weight. Initial stool examination was non-contributory and diagnosis was made by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.

A 5-year-old girl was admitted with pallor, hypopigmented sparse hair, tongue ulcers, atrophic nail changes, hypoplastic anemia and bilateral exudative retinopathy. A diagnosis of Revesz syndrome was made. She had the additional features of retinal detachment and retinitis pigmentosa, which are hitherto unreported in this syndrome.

Spontaneous peripheral artery thrombosis in children is rare. We present 2 cases, in both of which the diagnosis was delayed. Acute arterial insufficiency should be considered in children who have clinical symptoms of leg pain, pallor, and reduced pulses. Angiography is the gold standard to confirm or exclude the diagnosis.

A 34-year-old female presented with several weeks of fever, fatigue, weight loss, abdominal pain and hemoptysis. PE revealed moderate pallor, RUQ pain, mild dyspnea, conjunctival injection and hepatomegaly. The CBC showed anemia, mild leukocytosis, hypoalbuminemia, hypertransaminasemia, presence of nucleated red blood cells. Microsporidium was found in BMA.

The broad spectrum of heat-related injury (HRI) and its associated lesions is well described in the human literature, with rare reports of similar findings in farm animals. In the current case series, lesions from 4 of 8 lambs that presented with clinical signs of heat stress are reported. When lymphocytes from hypersensitive animals are incubated with antigen, biologically active substances are formed which inhibit the migration of mesenchymal cells from normal animals. These substances were tested by intradermal injection in guinea-pigs and rabbits. A previously healthy 16-year-old adolescent boy presented with pallor, blurry vision, fatigue, and dyspnea on exertion. Physical examination demonstrated hypertension and bilateral optic nerve swelling. Laboratory testing revealed pancytopenia. Pediatric hematology, ophthalmology and neurology were consulted and a life-threatening diagnosis was made.

Children with occipital seizures often have ictal autonomic symptoms such as pallor and vomiting and lack motor manifestations. This has lead to misdiagnosis of occipital seizures in children. The following case report highlights the clinical features of a child with occipital epilepsy misdiagnosed as having migraine. The aetiology of symptomatic occipital epilepsy will be discussed.

A 10-year-old girl observed to have episodes of flushing, pallor and weakness, was referred for investigation of possible carcinoid syndrome. The cause of these episodes was masturbation. Masturbation occurs at all ages and in most cases is considered normal behaviour. Lack of recognition of this phenomenon in children may lead to unnecessary investigations and treatment.
