Lupus erythematosus panniculitis is a rare clinical variant of lupus erythematosus. In this report we described a 38 year-old female patient who had suffered from chronic discoid lupus erythematosus for several years before developing widespread inflammatory, sclerotic and ulcerative lesions, which were first diagnosed as Weber-Christian panniculitis. It was only when the patient developed other signs and symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus that the subcutaneous lesions were recognized as lupus panniculitis. A combined regimen of tetracyclines and chloroquine resulted in a remission, both…

A group of ten patients with granulomatous panniculitis was studied; five had erythema induratum of the tuberculous or the nontuberculous type and five had erythema nodosum. In both groups, histiocytic giant cells and lymphocytic inflammation of the fat were seen microscopically. Massive caseation was seen in the patients who had erythema induratum, but this was not a distinguishing feature between the tuberculous and the nontuberculous type. The clinical history in all instances was a reliable guide to diagnosis. No specific cause was found, and treatment was not specific. tin granulomatous p…

Subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTCL) is a rare primary cutaneous cytotoxic T-cell lymphoma that may show marked clinical and histopathological overlap with lupus panniculitis. We report the case of a 22-year-old woman with a three-year history of slowly progressive depressed hyperpigmented lipoatrophic plaques involving the thighs, back, and left upper limb, associated with an erythematous alopecic scalp plaque. An initial thigh biopsy showed interface dermatitis, dermal mucin deposition, and lobular lymphocytic panniculitis with positive direct immunofluorescence, leading to…

We present a case of a girl in her early childhood with a background of chromosomal deletion 10q21.2, hypothyroidism, second-degree atrioventricular block, developmental delay, gastroesophageal reflux disease, constipation and recurrent fevers. She had subcutaneous nodules, which represented panniculitis. Diagnosis of fever of unknown origin (FUO) associated with panniculitis was very challenging despite the involvement of geneticist, dermatologist, rheumatologist and paediatrician. To detect possible malignant cases and start treatment plans promptly, the case emphasises the need for a compre…

Panniculitis was first described in the nineteenth century and is characterized by inflammation of the subcutaneous fat. It may be categorized in septal or lobular subtypes, but other histopathological features (e.g., presence of vasculitis, nature of inflammatory infiltrates, characteristics of fat necrosis) are also important for diagnostic purposes. Clinically, panniculitis is characterized by the presence of subcutaneous nodules, and both ulcerative and nonulcerative clinical subtypes have been proposed. In this review, we aimed to describe the occurrence of panniculitis in autoinflammator…

Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is a benign condition characterized by chronic inflammation and fibrosis of adipose tissue mainly of the small bowel mesentery. MP is commonly detected incidentally on cross-sectional imaging of the abdomen and can be asymptomatic in up to nearly half of patients. The most frequent clinical symptom reported is abdominal pain, followed by bloating/distention, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, anorexia, weight loss, fever, malaise, and nausea. On computed tomography, MP is seen as a mass-like area of increased fat attenuation within the small bowel mesentery, usually…

A 33-year-old male with a past medical history of hypertension, migraine, depression, and alcohol abuse presented with complaints of nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. He was found to have an elevated lipase and ethanol level. CT scan of the abdomen was done which showed peripancreatic fat stranding around the pancreatic head consistent with mild acute uncomplicated pancreatitis. CT scan of the abdomen also revealed multiple clustered nodes in the central mesentery with fatty haziness and ground-glass appearance of the mesenteric fat, representing mesenteric panniculitis.
