Large language models know how the personality of public figures is perceived by the general public.

We show that people's perceptions of public figures' personalities can be accurately predicted from their names' location in GPT-3's semantic space. We collected Big Five personality perceptions of 226 public figures from 600 human raters. Cross-validated linear regression was used to predict human perceptions from public figures' name embeddings extracted from GPT-3. The models' accuracy ranged from r = .78 to .88 without controls and from r = .53 to .70 when controlling for public figures' likability and demographics, after correcting for attenuation. Prediction models showed high face valid

Fear of falling and its association with life-space mobility of older adults: a cross-sectional analysis using data from five international sites.

BACKGROUND: fear of falling (FOF) is a major health concern among community-dwelling older adults that could restrict mobility. OBJECTIVE: to examine the association of FOF with life-space mobility (i.e. the spatial area a person moves through in daily life) of community-dwelling older adults from five diverse sites. METHODS: in total, 1,841 older adults (65-74 years) were recruited from Kingston, Canada; Saint-Hyacinthe, Canada; Tirana, Albania; Manizales, Colombia and Natal, Brazil. FOF was assessed using the Fall Efficacy Scale-International (FES-I total score), and the life space was qua

Costs and effectiveness of finding new HIV diagnoses by using rapid testing in transgender communities.

We assessed the costs and effectiveness of rapid HIV testing services provided to transgender communities in New York City and San Francisco from April 2005 to December 2006. Program costs were estimated based on service provider's perspective and included the costs attributable to staff time, incentives, transportation, test kits, office space, equipment, supplies, and utilities. The average annual numbers of persons tested were 195 and 106 persons and numbers notified of new HIV diagnoses were 35 (18.2%) in New York City and 8 (7.3%) in San Francisco, respectively. The estimated annual progr

The importance of movement for venous leg ulcer prevention and healing.

This narrative review will explore the importance of movement in wound healing, specifically in relation to venous leg ulcers (VLUs), particularly in older people. It reviews the effect of immobility from both a physical and psychological perspective, looking at different body systems, as well as the impact of having a wound. An overview of some research evidence on the positive effect of exercise/movement on wound healing and general health and wellbeing are presented, along with the impact of exercising in green spaces and the positive psychological benefits of exposure to green spaces. The

The transmission of tuberculosis in confined spaces: an analytical review of alternative epidemiological models.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that is closely associated with poverty, with transmission occurring in situations where infected persons are in close contact with others in confined spaces. While it is well recognised that overcrowding increases the risk of transmission, this increased risk has not been quantified and the relationship between overcrowding and duration of exposure is not well understood. This paper analyses three epidemiological models that have been used to predict the transmission of airborne disease in confined spaces: the Mass Action model, Riley, Murphy and Riley's model a

Subretinal Transplant of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Retinal Pigment Epithelium on Nanostructured Fibrin-Agarose.

In the promising field of cellular therapy for retinal degenerative diseases, a new biomaterial is proposed as a scaffold to grow and surgically introduce a monolayer of retinal pigment epithelial cells into the subretinal space, keeping the orientation of the cells for a proper functional integration of the transplant. The use of induced pluripotent stem cells as the starting material for retinal pigment epithelial cells is intended to advance toward a personalized medicine approach.

Relational safety and liberating training spaces: an application with a focus on sexual orientation issues.

This article describes and discusses a teaching case of a clinical training situation involving a gay marriage and family therapy student working with a same-sex affectional couple. The conceptual pillars of this teaching case, relational safety and liberating spaces, are advanced as illustrations of how the student developed his voice in the training process. Pivotal moments in this process are discussed, as are implications for training and personal and professional growth.

Effectiveness of spaced doses of diethylcarbamazine citrate for the control of bancroftian filariasis.

Forty-seven Wuchereria bancrofti microfilaria carriers were treated once weekly for 12 weeks with 6 mg/kg DEC-C. Microfilaria densities ranged from 1 to 101 mf/20 cmm (MfD-50 of 9.75 mf/20 cmm) before treatment. Of 42 persons who completed treatment, 26 (62%) were microfilaria negative in 1-ml venous blood samples. Microfilaria densities in the 16 patients that remained positive ranged from 1 to 50 mf/ml (MfD-50 of 2.59 mf/ml). Weekly spaced doses of DEC-C resulted in a significant reduction in the number of microfilaria carriers posttreatment, and in the level of residual microfilaremia when

Barriers to Women's Menstrual Hygiene Practices during Recurrent Disasters and Displacement: A Qualitative Study.

Disasters that involve displacement are particularly challenging for managing personal and menstrual hygiene, which can increase the risk of toxic shock syndrome, infections and other health conditions that can endanger women's lives. This study aimed to examine the menstrual hygiene challenges experienced by internally displaced women affected by recurrent natural disasters and subsequent displacement in the context of a low-middle-income country, i.e., Pakistan. A critical ethnographic study was undertaken in disaster-relief camps in the northern region of Pakistan. Data were collected using

How right dorsomedial lesions lead to neglect: A functional network-level framework.

Spatial neglect-a disorder characterized by impaired exploration of contralesional space-has only recently been reported following lesions to dorsomedial regions of the right hemisphere. Consequently, the mechanisms underlying the occurrence of neglect in this context remain largely unexplored. Here, we investigated whether alterations in functional connectivity could account for this phenomenon by longitudinally assessing resting-state fMRI in a patient before and after tumor resection. A 71-year-old male underwent resection of an oligodendroglioma involving the right superior frontal gyrus a

Finding Comfort in Discomfort… Reflecting on Stories Told.

INTRODUCTION: The 2022 Presidential Address for the Association for Academic Surgery was focused on better understanding the personal and professional challenges faced by surgeons during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: As part of this work, we embarked on a listening tour, inviting surgeons from all over the country to tell us their stories. This led to forming a panel of five selected participants based on how their stories crosscut many of the most prevalent themes during those conversations. Here, we present thematic excerpts of the 2022 presidential panel, intending to capture that moment

Constructing and measuring domain-specific emotions for affective design: a descriptive approach to deal with individual differences.

Assessing design solutions via domain-specific emotions has been widely concerned and explored in the field of affective design. However, the examination and accommodation of individual differences have not been settled sufficiently in the literature. To address this research gap, this paper proposes a descriptive approach to draw calibrated collective emotion patterns in survey-based affective design assessment. A 'Repertory Grid Interview linked with Rate-All-That-Apply' (RGI/RATA) procedure is firstly conducted to elicit and code the individual's personal emotional descriptions into mid-lev

Living with and teaching about HIV: engaging nursing students through body mapping.

Body mapping, an artistic method of narrating experiences alongside people living with HIV/AIDS (PHAs), was used to educate first year nursing students about social and personal aspects of the illness, including stigma. Body mapping creates a safe space where individuals can discuss personal, emotional, cultural, political and socio-economic dimensions of their lives in relation to HIV/AIDS. The aim of this study is to understand how individuals from multiple perspectives experience body mapping as an educational tool, including a nursing student, an expert facilitator, a PHA and a course prof
