OBJECTIVES: In recent years, it has been reported that the anti-shock effect of plasma substitutes in adult patients with major burn in shock stage is not good. However, due to the shortage of clinical frozen plasma supply, it is impossible to guarantee that frozen plasma is used as colloidal solution for anti-shock treatment. The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of the infusion ration between frozen plasma and plasma substitutes on the prognosis of adult patients with major burn in shock stage.

Fibronectin and denatured collagen possess attachment sites for each other and, in addition, antigenic sites reacting with the respective antibodies. Using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay it was shown that attachment sites and antigenic sites on fibronectin and on collagen reacted independently of each other. The present experiments compare the relative effectiveness of several plasma substitutes to reverse a standardized intestinal ischemic shock in dogs and rats. The colloids were given 3.5% solutions in a dose of 1.5 g/kg = 43 ml/kg for dogs and 2 g/kg = 57 ml/kg for rats.. Ringer's solution was given in a three times larger volume. Colloids of 3.5%, 6%, and 10% concentrations and Ringer's acetate were also given in increasing volumes for a test of the dose, concentration, and volume relationships. Recently we experienced one incident that the patient with A blood type reacted as AB type on macroscopic observation when the blood type was tested immediately after the infusion with Dextran70 in saline. The patient was confirmed as having the A type by reexamination later.
