Impact of molecularly defined hypolactasia, self-perceived milk intolerance and milk consumption on bone mineral density in a population sample in Northern Europe.

OBJECTIVE: Milk intake as a source of calcium is considered an important factor for bone mineral metabolism. Low lactase activity in adult-type hypolactasia (HL) and self-perceived lactose intolerance (LI) are the main limiting factors of milk intake. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship of HL, LI, individual milk consumption and bone mineral density in a population with high milk consumption and a prevalent vitamin D deficiency. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A population-based study of 367 men and women aged 25-70 years was conducted in Estonia. HL was diagnosed by direct sequencing

Density dependence in establishment, growth and worm fecundity in intestinal helminthiasis: the population biology of Trichuris muris (Nematoda) infection in CBA/Ca mice.

The results are presented of an experimental study of the population biology of chronic Trichuris muris (Nematoda) infection in cortisone-treated CBA/Ca mice. Attention is focused upon both the validity of the common use of faecal egg counts to demonstrate density dependence in helminth fecundity, and the identification of other possible density-dependent mechanisms that may regulate worm numbers in chronic trichuriasis. The results show that faecal egg counts, although demonstrating high daily variation, are not an artefact of host faecal output but a significant density-dependent function of

The association of bone mineral density with cardiovascular disease and mortality among individuals with/without type 2 diabetes: a population-based retrospective cohort.

OBJECTIVES: While type 2 diabetes (T2D) disrupts bone metabolism, T2D individuals often exhibit normal or elevated bone mineral density (BMD), complicating the relationship between BMD and cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study aimed to clarify the associations of BMD with CVD and mortality (CVM) in individuals with/without T2D. STUDY DESIGN: a retrospective cohort study. METHODS: T2D and non-type 2 diabetes (NT2D) individuals were selected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005-2018). They were classified into three groups based on femoral neck BMD: T1(< 0.8 g/cm²

Early life psychosocial stress increases binge-like ethanol consumption and CSF1R inhibition prevents stress-induced alterations in microglia and brain macrophage population density.

UNLABELLED: Early life stress (ELS) has lasting consequences on microglia and brain macrophage function. During ELS, microglia and brain macrophages alter their engagement with synapses leading to changes in neuronal excitability. Further, ELS can induce innate immune memory formation in microglia and brain macrophages resulting in altered responsivity to future environmental stimuli. These alterations can result in lasting adaptations in circuit function and may mediate the relationship between ELS and the risk to develop alcohol use disorder (AUD). Whether microglia and brain macrophages tru

Nationwide Lockdown, Population Density, and Financial Distress Brings Inadequacy to Manage COVID-19: Leading the Services Sector into the Trajectory of Global Depression.

The service industry provides distributive services, producer services, personal services, and social services. These services largely breakdowns due to restrictions on border movements, confined travel and transportation services, a decline in international tourists' visitation, nationwide lockdowns, and maintaining social distancing in the population. Although these measures are highly needed to contain coronavirus, it decreases economic and financial activities in a country, which requires smart solutions to globally subsidize the services sector. The study used different COVID-19 measures,
