We performed a combined retro- and prospective study of injuries in a Swedish professional, classical ballet company during 5 consecutive years. There were 390 injuries incurred by 98 dancers over a 5-year period, i.e., 0.6 injuries/1000 dance hours. Most injuries were considered to be due to overuse. The median sick leave was 2.3 weeks per injury. The foot and ankle region is vulnerable in classical ballet dancers, and overuse injuries can result in long periods of sick leave. STUDY DESIGN: A bilateral comparison of strength and range of motion testing in professional baseball pitchers.
OBJECTIVE: We studied 39 professional male baseball pitchers to determine if the shoulder used for throwing was weaker or had less passive range of motion, compared to the nondominant arm.
BACKGROUND: Shoulder muscle weakness has been proposed as a possible risk factor for developing injury. Therefore, objective quantification of the strength of glenohumeral and scapular rotator muscle groups should be studied in a population of professional baseball pitchers.

In this investigation, a written questionnaire was used to assess patient's perceptions of health care professionals' knowledge about Sjögren's syndrome. Results show that dental and other health care professionals need to be better informed about the nature of Sjögren's and its symptoms so they can diagnose patients. Early diagnosis may help mollify symptoms and reduce anxiety or other perceived harmful consequences.

We reviewed the records of 72 professional baseball players who underwent arthroscopic or open elbow surgery. The most common diagnoses were posteromedial olecranon osteophyte (65%), ulnar collateral ligament injury (25%), and ulnar neuritis (15%). A case report of an unresponsive chemist presenting to the emergency department is presented; in retrospect, the patient was discovered to have intentionally ingested cyanide. A review of literature regarding ingestions in laboratory and health care personnel reveals five common points encountered in these personnel: barbiturates, carbon monoxide, cyanide, azides, and methemoglobin-inducing chemicals. Key diagnostic findings, in the absence of history of exposure, are discussed for these five agents.

Hearing acuity was measured in 116 professional divers. After approximately 6 yr they were retested. At most frequencies, the divers had higher hearing thresholds than otologically normal subjects at the same age, both at the first and at the final examination.
