Derivation of quantitative structure-activity relationships between pharmacological potencies and the electronic structure of molecules may often result in chance correlations, because of the large number of quantum chemical indices. Interrelationships between the parameters complicate the interpretation of the results. Quantum chemical indices of benzylamines, tetracyclines, and 1,4-benzodiazepines were transformed into mutually independent components using principal component analysis. The number of essential components was 3, 4, and 3, respectively. The computational efforts needed to devel

Despite the undeniable clinical success of platinum-based antineoplastic agents, their rational design remains hindered by the inherent difficulties in capturing the quantum chemical electronic nature of their three-dimensional coordination geometries and variable oxidation states of transition metal complexes. To address this fundamental limitation, we introduce a machine learning framework based on density functional theory descriptors to discriminate between drug and non-drug metallocomplexes. A curated dataset of platinum complexes was subjected to conformational sampling and density funct

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global threat, demanding new therapeutic strategies. Dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), essential for cell survival and a known drug target, has emerged as a promising enzyme for anti-TB drug development. Using crystallographic structures of Mycobacterium tuberculosis DHFR (MtDHFR) complexed with classical and potential inhibitors, a quantum-chemical analysis was performed through the molecular fractionation with conjugate caps (MFCC) scheme within the density functional theory (DFT) framework to quantify individual amino acid contributions to ligand-protein inte

The interaction between drugs and single-walled carbon nanotubes is proving to be of fundamental interest for drug system of delivery and nano-bio-sensing. In this study, the interaction of pristine CNT with carbazochrome, an anti-hemorrhagic or hemostatic agent, was investigated with M06-2X functional and 6-31G* basis set. All probable positions of related adsorption for these kind drugs were thought-out to find out which one is energetically suitable. Based on the achieved data, the stronger interactions appeared the oxygen atom of C = O group and nitrogen atom of imine groups. The topology

Mixed quantum states are the native description of many physically important quantum systems, making their generation a fundamental task in quantum information processing. However, constructing a diffusion process that generates density operators while keeping every reverse step physically valid remains nontrivial. This work introduces Quantum Generative Diffusion Model (QGDM), a fully quantum-mechanical model whose forward and backward processes are grounded in quantum channel theory. Through a non-unitary forward process, any target quantum state can be transformed into a completely mixed st

Protein folding is governed by the principle of free energy minimization, where a protein's native tertiary structure corresponds to the global minimum on an energy landscape shaped by quantum mechanical interactions such as hydrogen bonding, van der Waals forces, and electron delocalization. Despite significant advances in template-based modeling (TBM), ab-initio simulations, and deep learning approaches, classical methods continue to face challenges due to the exponential complexity of the conformational search space and the approximations involved in modeling molecular interactions. Redox enzymes play an essential role in nature and in biotechnological applications such as (photo)biocatalysis and biosensing. Understanding how a protein's sequence and structure tune its redox potential is very valuable for engineering proteins with tailored (photo)redox properties. Since protein redox potential measurements are laborious, reliable redox potential computations present an attractive alternative. However, redox calculations come with their own set of challenges, such as ensuring adequate sampling and accurate force fields. Dealing with charge-changing states introduces additi

Accurate and reliable brain tumor diagnosis from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) remains a challenging task, particularly in multi-class settings where inter-class ambiguity and miscalibration may degrade predictive performance. In this work, we propose a Class-wise Quantum Relational Calibration Network (CQRCNet), a hybrid quantum-classical framework that integrates quantum relational modeling into a classical convolutional neural network backbone. Our approach employs a parameter-shared and low-qubit quantum circuit to explicitly model pairwise interactions between class-specific evidences,

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a significant concern with prescription medications and supplements. Accordingly, it is crucial to develop tools and approaches that can predict DILI likelihood of existing medications and supplements, as well as potential drug candidates under development. The complexity of liver injury mechanisms and the limited availability of DILI data hamper the development of robust predictive models. In order to overcome these challenges, this study investigated enriching machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI) models that predict the risk of DILI using drug

Regio- and enantioselective hydroxylation of free fatty acids by human cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) plays an important role in metabolic regulation and has significant pathological implications. Despite extensive research, the detailed hydroxylation mechanism of CYP2E1 remains incompletely understood. To clarify the origins of regioselectivity and enantioselectivity observed for CYP2E1-mediated fatty acid hydroxylation, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) calculations were performed. MD simulations provided key insights into the proximity of ar

We examine methods to reweight classical molecular mechanics solvation calculations to more expensive QM/MM energy functions. We first consider the solvation free energy difference between ethane and methanol in a QM/MM Hamiltonian from configurations generated in a cheaper MM potential. The solute molecules in the QM/MM Hamiltonian are treated with B3LYP/6-31G*, and the solvent water molecules are treated classically. The free energy difference in the QM/MM Hamiltonian is estimated using Boltzmann reweighting with both the non-Boltzmann Bennett method (NBB) and the multistate Bennett acceptan

A low-cost, simple, and highly selective analytical method was developed for sensitive visual detection of selenium in human urine both outdoors and at home, by coupling hydride generation with headspace solid-phase extraction using quantum dots (QDs) immobilized on paper. The visible fluorescence from the CdTe QDs immobilized on paper was quenched by H2Se from hydride generation reaction and headspace solid-phase extraction. The potential mechanism was investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) as well as Density Functional Theory (DFT). Potential

Colloidal quantum dots are semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) which have stimulated a great deal of research and have attracted technical interest in recent years due to their chemical stability and the tunability of photophysical properties. While internal structure of large quantum dots is similar to bulk, their surface structure and passivating role of capping ligands (surfactants) are not fully understood to date. We apply ab initio wavefunction methods, density functional theory, and semiempirical approaches to study the passivation effects of substituted phosphine and amine ligands on the

We introduce a novel quantum transducer based on cadmium telluride quantum dots for reagentless and label-free biosensing. The device leverages the intrinsic electronic properties of quantum dot assemblies, as quantum conductance measurements directly reflect their quantum-capacitive (electronic) density-of-states according to the quantum-rate theory. This methodology is functionally analogous to scanning tunneling spectroscopy in its ability to map discrete electronic states (dI/dV ∝ dn/dE), but operates in situ in an aqueous medium, making it ideal for electrochemical biosensing applications

Free-energy-based variational principles provide a powerful framework for describing perception, inference, and decision making. The Free Energy Principle (FEP) is one prominent realization of this idea, but its standard formulation is usually expressed in terms of classical probabilistic generative models. Here, we propose an FEP-inspired, quantum-like variational approach by integrating Quantum State Over Time (QSOT), Schrödinger-bridge (SB) theory, and quantum logic into a unified framework. Cognitive evolution is formulated as the optimization of temporally extended quantum-like states und

Ultralong organic phosphorescence (UOP) has broad application prospects in many fields, but realizing its high quantum efficiency is still full of challenges. One of the main reasons is that the internal luminescence mechanism is unclear and theoretical investigations to reveal the inner structure-property relationship are highly desired. Herein, the internal mechanism of halogen bonding enhancing the quantum efficiency of UOP is studied through the combination of quantum mechanics and molecular mechanics methods coupled with the thermal vibration correlation function (TVCF) method. In this study, the geometry and physical nature of regium···regium contacts have been studied at the RI-PBE0-D4/def2-TZVPD level of theory. In more detail, diatomic M clusters (M = Cu, Ag, and Au) were used in a series of homodimer and homotrimer complexes, where they acted as both electron donor and acceptor counterparts. The results were analyzed using several state of the art quantum chemistry tools, such as the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM), the natural nond orbital (NBO), the non-covalent interaction plot (NCIplot), and the energy decomposition analyses (EDA) methodologies.

We present WEST, an open-source plane-wave pseudopotential code for large-scale excited-state materials simulations, and describe its theoretical foundations, software architecture, and capabilities. WEST implements full-frequency GW, quantum defect embedding theory, the Bethe-Salpeter equation, and time-dependent density functional theory within a common algorithmic framework that avoids the explicit computation of virtual electronic states. By combining density functional and density matrix perturbation theory, low-rank representations of the dielectric screening and exact exchange, and loca

Ground states of 1+1d conformal field theories (CFTs) satisfy a local entropic condition called the vector fixed point equation. This condition is surprisingly well satisfied by ground states of quantum critical lattice models even at small system sizes. We perform a search in the space of states of very small systems (4 qubits and 4 qutrits) and examine the states that satisfy this condition. By reconstructing a local Hamiltonian from each state, we are able to identify many of these solutions with known CFTs; others are gapped fixed points or involve large relevant perturbations, and others

The results of our investigations on the Au-catalyzed regioselective hydration reaction of both alkyl- and aryl-substituted N-propargyl phthalimides directed to the selective formation of the corresponding β-phthalimido ketones are described. Experimental data, in particular the observed regioselectivity, have been qualitatively supported by quantum-chemical calculations carried out on model systems in the framework of Density Functional Theory (DFT) followed by quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIMS). Our results suggest that the electronic features of the initial adduct between the pro
