In this paper the activity concentrations of 226Ra and 222Rn were assayed in the mineral spring waters of Aguas da Prata in order to evaluate the seasonal variations of such radionuclides. The results obtained were related to the chemical composition of the water as well as to the lithology of the aquifer and temperature. Higher activity concentrations up to 1.8 x 10(3) mBq L-1 for 226Ra and 1.2 x 10(2) Bq L-1 for 222Rn have been observed in waters with low levels of soluble salts. The effects of droperidol combined with pentazocine and with fentanyl on the pulmonary hemodynamics were investigated in intact dogs anesthetized with urethanechloralose, and the results were compared with those of each analgesic alone. Mean pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary driving pressure remained almost unchanged after droperidol and pentazocine. Radium 223 dichloride (Ra223) is the only targeted alpha therapy able to extend survival in patients with bone metastases from prostate cancer. Mechanism of action and data currently available focused mainly on osteoblastic metastases from prostate cancer. This paper reviews 117 cases of leukoplakia of the tongue seen at Christie Hospital and Holt Radium Institute between 1932-1972. After confirmation of non-malignancy by biopsy these cases were kept on follow-up for a varying period of time. It was found that 20 (17%) of them eventually developed carcinoma of the tongue. Of the others 11 (9.4%) developed malignancy of other sites. Intravaginal radium was used to treat 11 patients who were found to have vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN) following hysterectomy for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
