Rosacea Treatment: Review and Update.

Rosacea is a chronic and inflammatory skin disease characterized by flushing, nontransient erythema, papules/pustules, telangiectasia, and phymatous changes. Secondary manifestations, such as itching, burning, or stinging, are often observed in patients with rosacea. In 2017, a phenotype-based approach for diagnosis and classification was recommended. With the update of the diagnosis and classification of rosacea, treatment options for patients with rosacea have attracted the attention of dermatologists. Here, we summarize the latest advances in rosacea treatment, including skin care and cosme…

[Rosacea - manifestations and treatment options].

Rosacea - manifestations and treatment options Abstract. Rosacea is a common dermatosis of the face with a prevalence of up to 22 %, according to the current literature. The known trigger factors include caffeine, alcohol, sunlight, hot and spicy foods, psychological stress, menstruation and extreme temperatures or temperature fluctuations. Diagnosis is most often clinical, however, due to the numerous differential diagnoses, performing a biopsy may be helpful in atypical manifestations. Depending on the symptoms, in addition to the avoidance of trigger factors, physical therapeutic options as…

Rosacea causing unilateral Morbihan syndrome.

Morbihan syndrome is a rare entity causing woody induration of the face. There are numerous case reports of bilateral Morbihan syndrome. We present a case of a 46-year-old man with right infra-orbital cheek swelling and symptoms of rosacea who had histology consistent with granulomatous rosacea following debulking surgery. His clinical presentation and investigation findings support a diagnosis of rosacea causing unilateral Morbihan syndrome.

Rosacea Triggers: Alcohol and Smoking.

A variety of triggers are thought to exacerbate rosacea. A validated self-assessment tool and survey was used to study the relationship between rosacea severity and triggers. Subjects were adult patients with a clinical diagnosis of rosacea. Increased severity of disease was significantly associated with consumption of many alcoholic beverages in 1 day and employment at a job requiring extensive sun exposure. The authors' findings may inform physician counseling practices; patients may be provided with practical measures for managing their rosacea, such as limiting alcohol consumption over sho…

Drug-Induced Rosacea-like Dermatitis.

Rosacea is a common, chronic cutaneous disorder with a prevalence of 0.5-10%, predominantly affecting women. The disease presents with a heterogeneous clinical picture characterized by transient flushing, persistent facial redness, telangiectasias, and, in more severe clinical forms, the presence of inflammatory papules and pustules in the central third of the face. Although its pathophysiology is complex and still remains unknown, factors that exacerbate the disease are well defined. They include genetic predisposition as well as external factors such as exposure to UV light, high temperature…

Rosacea: clinical features and treatment.

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that predominantly affects the central face. It is characterised by a variable range of symptoms, including erythema, telangiectasia, papules, pustules and changes in skin texture. Rosacea may be transient, recurrent or persistent. Because it affects the most visible part of the body, the psychosocial effects of this condition can be significant. This article describes the features and management of the condition.

Ivermectin 1% cream for rosacea.

The etiology of papulopustular rosacea (PPR) is not well understood yet appears to involve both the innate and adaptive immune response in addition to possible infestation with Demodex mites. Current treatments for PPR consist mainly of antibiotics. Ivermectin cream 1%, a new topical treatment for PPR, possesses both anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic properties. After 12 weeks of treatment, subjects treated with ivermectin cream 1% had significantly greater reductions in PPR symptoms and enhanced diseaserelated quality of life improvements compared to subjects who received vehicle. Furtherm…

[Rosacea: Clinical features and classification].

Rosacea is a frequent chronic dermatological disorder mainly affecting the face. Since it affects the appearance, it can be very distressing for the patient leading to psychosocial disturbances. Rosacea occurs in adults, peaking between 40 and 50 years of age. The course of rosacea is quite variable and the disease may stop at any stage. Generally, three main stages are differentiated: erythemato-teleangiectatic rosacea (rosacea stage I), papulopustular rosacea (rosacea stage II), hyperglandular-hypertrophic rosacea (rosacea stage III). Besides these main manifestations numerous special forms …

Rosacea: current state of epidemiology.

Case definitions are critical in epidemiologic research. However, modern disease indicators must now consider complex data from gene-based research along with traditional clinical parameters. Rosacea is a skin disorder with multiple signs and symptoms. In individuals, these features may be multiple or one may predominate. While studies on the epidemiology of rosacea have previously been sparse, there has been a recent increase in research activity. A broader body of epidemiological information that includes a greater variety of countries beyond Northern Europe and general population-based demo…

Antinuclear antibodies in rosacea patients.

INTRODUCTION: Rosacea is a common inflammatory disorder, characterized by a spectrum of facial manifestations. The clinical similarity to other dermatoses, like lupus erythematosus, might lead to misdiagnosis, particularly in patients with elevated antinuclear antibody titers. AIM: To assess the frequency, titer and specificity of antinuclear antibodies in rosacea patients and correlate these findings with clinical features. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 101 rosacea patients and 26 sex- and age-matched controls. Immunofluorescence antinuclear antibody testing was performed on HEp-…

Ocular rosacea: a dermatologic perspective.

As many as 50% of patients given the diagnosis of cutaneous rosacea also have ocular rosacea. Conservative figures indicate that approximately 10 million patients are affected by ocular rosacea in the United States alone. Despite this prevalence, ocular symptoms of rosacea are often improperly diagnosed, particularly when they occur in the absence of skin involvement.

[Rosacea. Systemic therapy with retinoids].

Systemic isotretinoin has been known for decades as an effective and safe therapeutic option in the treatment of severe and refractory forms of rosacea. It can also be used in special treatment-resistant forms of rosacea, e.g. granulomatous rosacea, as efficacious second-line therapy. Previously, the effect of isotretinoin in rosacea has been mainly studied in small cohorts or anecdotal reports. Recently, a big randomized double-blind dose-response and comparative study revealed that an optimized dosage of 0,3 mg/kg was superior to other dosages and non-inferior to doxycycline as gold standard…

Risk factors associated with rosacea.

BACKGROUND: Although rosacea is a common disease, the cause of disease is still a mystery -Helicobacter pylori infection, genetic predisposition, climatic factors, and detrimental habits are implicated as triggers of rosacea. OBJECTIVE: The aim of current study is to evaluate several suspected risk factors coincidently. METHODS: Patients with rosacea from a dermatology clinic and skin-healthy controls from an randomly selected employees' population enrolled the study. Skin status were evaluated by one and same dermatologist. Participants were queried for age, gender, sun-reactive skin type, …
