To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of sarcosporidiosis in a pet ferret in Italy.

The present status of food-borne parasitic zoonoses in West Germany is characterized by a relatively high frequency of toxoplasmosis, sarcocystosis and Taenia saginata infections. Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) is a common neurologic disease of horses in the Americas. Horses with EPM most commonly have abnormalities of gait, but they also may present with signs of brain disease.
