OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of methylene blue (MB) on the changes in plasma nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and visceral pathologic changes in rabbits with traumatic shock.
METHODS: Eighteen rabbits were randomly assigned into 3 groups (n=6): sham operation group, traumatic shock with normal saline (NS) resuscitation group (NS group), and traumatic shock with MB resuscitation group (MB group). In NS group and MB group, hemodynamics was monitored, and plasma contents of NO, TNF-alpha and IL-6 were determined before shock, after shock, after

OBJECTIVE: To explore the value of monitoring CO(2) partial pressure of gastric mucosa (PiCO(2)) in patients with traumatic shock under enteral nutrition (EN) support.
METHODS: Ninety-six patients who were clinically diagnosed as having traumatic shock were randomly divided into two groups: the test group and the control group. In the test group, EN was given after tissue oxygenation, indicated by the value of PiCO(2), approached normal and the clinical symptoms ameliorated. In control group EN was given at the early stage of recovery from shock. The course of convalescence of the primary dis

Rhabdomyolysis (literally "striped muscle dissolution") is a biological and clinical condition that takes to plasmatic release of myoglobin, muscle enzymes and electrolytes, relates to the lysis of stripped muscle fibers. Rhabdomyolysis presents the clinician with two distinct problems: local injury and the systemic effects directly related to that injury. Locally, muscle, vessel and nerve compression are the primary issues. Systemic concerns relate to depleted intravascular volume, electrolyte imbalances and renal injury from myoglobin. Preventing the systemic and renal complications of the c

The analysis of data of 780 cases of patients with traumatic shock enabled the author to show the dependence of the duration of shock in hours (+T) and life-span in the same unit (-T) on the age of the patient (A), pulse rate (P) and level of the systolic arterial pressure (AP) and the sum number assessment of severity of the trauma (K), calculated according to a special table. The dependence is expressed by the formula: (Formula: see text) The clinical verification has shown 90% of coincidence of the real and prognostic severity of the traumatic shock by the outcome.

When characterising the so called disputable and indisputable points in the traumatic shock problem, the authors acquaint the reader with phases of the development of shock and with its symptoms, which facilitates significantly diagnostic possibilities and allows to follow the dynamics of the disease. The physicians will benefit from the scheme of antishock therapy suggested by the authors.
