Impact of Preoperative Urinary Tract Infection Screening in Asymptomatic Women Undergoing Midurethral Sling.

INTRODUCTION: There is limited information regarding the utility of preoperative urine culture (Ucx) screening to decrease postoperative UTI rates following midurethral sling (MUS). HYPOTHESIS: The primary objective of this study was to determine if the rate of postoperative UTI within the first 6 weeks after surgery is lower in women undergoing MUS when preoperative Ucx is obtained compared to when it is not. Secondary objectives were to determine clinical factors associated with postoperative UTI risk. METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study of women who did not have symptoms of or a

Midurethral sling position and surgical outcome: A meta-analysis.

There is still ongoing debate as to whether the outcome of the sling is determined by the position of the midurethral sling. In order to evaluate the potential impact of sling position on the outcomes of retropubic and transobturator sling procedures for stress urinary incontinence, it is necessary to conduct further investigations. We conducted a comprehensive search across various electronic databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE. Relevant data were extracted, organized in a table format, and analyzed using RevMan software for further analysis. This review comprised a total of 9 studies.

Solyx Minisling Surgery for Stress Urinary Incontinence: Dhulikhel Hospital Initiative.

Solyx mini-sling surgery is a single-incision procedure that is used to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women. SUI is a common medical condition characterized by the involuntary leakage of urine with activity such as laughing, coughing, and sneezing. It affects 35% of adult women worldwide. The Solyx sling is a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed through a single vaginal incision. It is a safe and effective treatment for SUI, with a high success rate. The mini-sling is inserted through a small, single incision in the vagina. This makes the procedure less invasive than

The "Aberdeen Home Continence Stress Test": a novel objective assessment tool for female stress urinary incontinence.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Clinical trials for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) require a robust, reliable, and responsive tool for objective assessment of SUI post-intervention. The Aberdeen Home Continence Stress Test (HCST) is a novel patient-reported objective assessment tool, aimed to be patient-friendly and reduce attrition rates by avoiding hospital appointments and prolonged pad-wearing. We aim to describe the HCST for the first time and evaluate its reliability, diagnostic accuracy, and response to change. METHODS: A secondary analysis of the Single-Incision Mini-Slings (SIMS) stu

Short-Term Urinary Retention After Tension-Free Vaginal Tape Midurethral Sling Performed Alone or as a Concomitant Procedure.

OBJECTIVE: The objective was to determine whether a difference exists in short-term urinary retention after tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) midurethral sling placement when performed alone compared with when placed during a concomitant prolapse procedure. METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study that compared TVT procedures performed alone (group 1) to those with a concomitant prolapse procedure (group 2). The primary outcome was the proportion of patients discharged with an indwelling Foley catheter after failing postoperative voiding trial. RESULTS: There were 100 w

[Autologous fascia pubovaginal slings in women with stress urinary incontinence at high risk of mesh/device-related complications].

INTRODUCTION: Very popular in many parts of the world, autologous fascial pubovaginal sling (AFPVS) remains marginally used in France. However, it may be of particular interest in patients carrying a high risk of mesh-related or device-related related complications. The aim of the present series was to report the outcomes of AFPVS in this high-risk population. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The charts of all female patients who underwent a fascial sling for SUI at a single academic center between April 2019 and May 2021 were reviewed retrospectively. Only patients deemed at high-risk of device/mesh re

Up-to-Date Procedures in Female Stress Urinary Incontinence Surgery: A Concise Review on Bulking Agents Procedures.

To avoid complications related to mid-urethral slings (MUS), alternative procedures to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI), such as urethral bulking agents (UBAs) have been adopted. The aim of this review is to narratively report the efficacy and safety of UBAs for SUI treatment. For this review, research from PubMed and EMBASE was performed to evaluate relevant studies that were undertaken from January 2012 to January 2022. Nineteen prospective studies were included. Several definitions of subjective and objective success were adopted. At a follow-up of <24 months, significant improvement

Readjustable Sling in Women With Stress Urinary Incontinence and Hypomobile Urethra: Understanding the Mechanisms of Closure by Transperineal Ultrasound.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the postsurgical sonographic parameters of a readjustable sling (RAS) according to urinary incontinence (UI) symptoms after surgery and compare this RAS sonographic pattern with mid-urethral slings (MUS). METHODS: Observational, prospective multicenter study, including women undergoing stress urinary incontinence (SUI) surgery with RAS (Remeex®). The primary outcome was the association between UI symptoms and sonographic parameters measured by two-dimensional transperineal and high-frequency endovaginal ultrasound. We measured static parameters (bladder neck funneling, R

Immunohistochemical Investigation of Autonomic and Sensory Innervation of Anterior Vaginal Wall Female Periurethral Tissue: A Study of the Surgical Field of Mid-Urethral Sling Surgery Using Cadaveric Simulation.

BACKGROUND: Female sexual dysfunction, including female orgasm disorder, has been reported following mid-urethral sling (MUS) surgery to treat bothersome stress urinary incontinence. Anterior vaginal wall-female periurethral tissue (AVW-FPT) likely contains autonomic and sensory innervation involved in the female sexual response, and injury to these nerves may result from MUS implantation. AIM: To characterize, using fresh cadaveric tissue, autonomic and sensory nerves in AVW- FPT using immunohistochemistry (IHC), and to assess their proximity to an implanted MUS. METHODS: AVW-FPT was excise

Translabial ultrasound: a non-invasive technique for assessing "technical errors" after TOT failure.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The aims of this study were to evaluate by transperineal ultrasound if there were ultrasound-detectable changes over time in the dynamic behavior of the sling in patients who underwent transobturator tape (TOT), and to evaluate if dynamic translabial ultrasonography recognized factors that may be associated with failed surgery. METHODS: This was a single-center prospective study. We included women who underwent "out-in" TOT for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). A dynamic translabial ultrasound was performed 6 months post-surgery and again at the last visit. The o

Bulking agents for the treatment of recurrent stress urinary incontinence: a suitable option?

BACKGROUND: The management of recurrent female stress urinary incontinence (SUI) still needs worldwide standardization. Few data on the role of urethral bulking agents (UBA) for the treatment of recurrent stress urinary incontinence exist. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of urethral bulking agents for the treatment of recurrent SUI. METHODS: A multicenter, prospective study was conducted in four tertiary referral centers in two countries. All consecutive women with urodynamically-proven recurrent SUI, and with a history of previous failed anti-incontinence surgical

Improvement in dyspareunia after vaginal mesh removal measured by a validated questionnaire.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The objective was to examine the effect of the surgical removal of vaginally placed prolapse and incontinence mesh on sexual function. We hypothesize that patients with painful complications of mesh will experience improvement in dyspareunia and sexual function after mesh removal. METHODS: The eligible cohort consisted of 133 women who presented with a new onset of pain attributed to mesh-augmented incontinence or prolapse surgery and who elected to undergo mesh removal between 1 August 2012 and 1 July 2013. Sexual function symptoms were assessed before and after
