A pedicled flap obtained by mobilizing the right lobe of the thymus was used to protect bronchial sutures in 29 consecutive patients undergoing a right pneumonectomy and in 4 additional patients. Fourteen patients had received preoperative chemotherapy with or without radiotherapy. The flap procedure was, in general, easy to do, required an average time of 20.4 minutes, and did not cause added operative morbidity. Thirty-seven of 41 consecutive patients with recurrent anterior instability of the shoulder were retrospectively observed for a mean of 5.6 years (range, 4 to 10) after an arthroscopic stabilization procedure had been performed. The operative technique involved the use of transglenoid sutures to repair the capsule and labrum. Twelve cases with canalicular disorders were treated by a new technique using multiple traction sutures (MTS) under an operating microscope. To compare two methods of vaginal cuff closure during abdominal hysterectomy, 60 patients were randomized to one of two cuff-closure methods. In seven patients (mean age 22 years) with injuries of the pelvic ring, the rupture of the symphysis was treated by polydioxanone ligaments. Complete rupture of the ileosacral joint was treated twice by additional external fixation, twice a compression screw osteosynthesis was applied. From 1 October 1981 to 30 September 1985 ninety-six patients underwent colorectal resection with EEA Auto-suture stapled anastomosis for cancer or diverticula. This work covers an experience of 174 patients operated for hypospadias over twelve and a half years (1962 through August, 1974). The authors carried out 88 sutures of the ascending colon in Wistar rats, 44 in inversion and the remainder in eversion. The suture material used was monofilament 9/0 nylon. The intestinal diameter was measured using an instrument and the healing process studied by means of the following parameters: granulocytes, oedema, fibrin, fibroblasts and re-epithelialisation of the mucosa, on histology.
