Syntheses of halide derivatives of germanium(II) and tin(II) aminotroponiminate (ATI) complexes and their silver salt metathesis reactions have been investigated. The ground and excited states of Sn2 are calculated using the multireference configuration interaction method combined with Davidson correction (MRCI+Q). The influence of the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect on the electronic structure is also considered by the state interaction method of Breit-Pauli Hamiltonian. Macro-porous tin oxide was prepared as an enhanced sensing material for sulfur compounds, such as hydrogen sulfide. Poly-methyl-methacrylate (PMMA) was used as a template for the formation of macro-pores. Tin chloride was used as a precursor for the synthesis of tin oxide, and was impregnated over PMMA beads using a rotary vacuum evaporator. A novel technique using the patient's existing complete dentures as a radiographic guide for diagnosis and treatment planning in implant dentistry is presented. Tin foil is used to cover the denture teeth before the radiographic scan is performed. Advantages of the described technique include its cost-effectiveness, simplicity, efficiency, and lack of need to modify or duplicate the patient's existing dentures. A disadvantage of the technique is that it serves only as a radiographic guide.

Concentrated tin- and fluoride-containing mouthrinses are effective erosion inhibitors in enamel and dentin. The allylation reactions of aromatic aldehydes and ketones were carried out in 31-86% yield using SnCl(2)-H(2)O system under ultrasound irradiation at r.t. for 5h. The reactions in the same system gave homoallyl alcohols in 21-84% yield with stirring at r.t. for 24h. Compared with traditional stirring methods, ultrasonic irradiation is more convenient and efficient.

The synthesis and X-ray crystal structures of five N-heterocyclic stannylenes are reported. These compounds, containing a variety of backbones, were prepared by the salt metathesis of the appropriate dilithiated diamide with SnCl(2) and show a high degree of thermal stability compared to the corresponding species with unsaturated backbones. If bulky diisopropylphenyl groups are attached to the nitrogen centers then the structures are monomeric, but when the less bulky mesityl groups are employed the solid-state structure was shown to be dimeric.

Technetium-99m-(tin) colloid uptake in renal transplants was quantified to evaluate rejection. A dynamic acquisition following i.v. injection of 110 MBq of this radiopharmaceutical enabled quantification of 15 to 20 min transplant uptake (PU), in terms of percentage of an injected dose after allowing for attenuation in the patient.
