Several analogues of the natural compound prodigiosin with modified A- and C-rings were synthesised as were some of their tin, cobalt, boron and zinc complexes. The antimalarial activity of these prodigiosenes was evaluated in vitro using the 3D7 Plasmodium falciparum strain. The presence of a nitrogen atom in the A-ring is needed for antimalarial activity but the presence of an alkyl group at the β'-position of the C-ring seems detrimental. A simple deep eutectic solvent based on tin (II) chloride was used as a dual catalyst and environmentally benign reaction medium for an efficient synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one derivatives, from aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes, 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds, and urea in good-to-excellent yields and short reaction time. This simple ammonium deep eutectic solvent, easily synthesized from choline chloride and tin chloride, is relatively inexpensive and recyclable, making it applicable for industrial applications.

A case of hepatic hydrothorax without clinical ascites is reported. The diagnosis was confirmed by intraperitoneal injection of 99mTc-tin colloid: scintigraphic images taken between 5 min and 18 h p.i. demonstrated a one-way transdiaphragmatic flow into the pleural cavity. The therapy consisted of diuretic treatment, pleural drainage and chemical pleurodesis, and resulted in prompt clinical improvement.

Organotin compounds specifically target vicinal dithiols, thereby inhibiting the function of essential enzymes. Here, we present the NMR binding studies of trimethyltin (TMT) and dimethyltin (DMT) chlorides with a linear peptide (ILGCWCYLR) derived from the membrane protein stannin (SNN). The aggregating effects of adenosine diphosphate, thrombin, 5-hydroxytryptamine, tryptamine, adrenaline and noradrenaline, and tri-ethyl tin have been carefully compared. The first three compounds in some circumstances produce remarkably similar effects although there are important differences. Two new diketopiperazines, named diphenylalazine C (1) and epicoccin U (2), together with six known compounds (3-8) were isolated from the EtOAc extract of the fermentation broth of the tin mine tailings-derived fungus Schizophyllum commune YIM DT 10058. Their structures were elucidated by detailed analysis of spectroscopic data and comparison with related known compounds. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited weak antibacterial and cytotoxic activities.

The single-crystal X-ray diffraction structure of the title compound, [SnCl(C6H5)3]·C18H21OP, is reported. The 1:1 cocrystal features a short and directional tetrel bond between tin and oxygen. The tin-oxygen distance is 2.346 (4) Å, representing 62% of the sum of the van der Waals radii of Sn and O. The Cl-Sn⋯O angle is 174.0 (1)° and this nearly linear arrangement is consistent with a tetrel bond formed via a σ-hole opposite the tin-chlorine covalent bond. Some weak C-H⋯Cl inter-actions are noted between adjacent mol-ecules.
