Inflammatory pseudotumor is an unusual benign but potentially invasive lesion. In the head and neck area, it mainly involves the orbit and paranasal sinuses. We present a case in tonsil and neck. After tonsillectomy and steroid therapy, there has been no recurrence.

Plasma cell tumors are a diverse group of neoplasms characterized by monoclonal proliferation of plasma cells. Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is a rare form of localized plasma cell tumor that arises most often in the head and neck region. We present an unusual case of EMP of the palatine tonsil from a tertiary care university hospital. We discuss the histopathologic and radiologic evaluation as well as treatment of EMP.

Schwannomas can originate in any peripheral, autonomic, or cranial nerve except the olfactory and optic nerves. Between 25 and 48% of all schwannomas have been reported to arise in the head and neck, with the acoustic nerve being the most common site of origin there. Schwannomas of the palatine tonsil are rare; as far as we know, only 6 such cases have been previously reported in the literature; 5 of these 6 occurred in adults and the other in an adolescent. We report a new case in a 42-year-old woman, which was diagnosed on the basis of histopathology.

The occurrence of tuberculosis of the upper respiratory tract including oral cavity has become uncommon. Isolated tuberculosis of tonsil in the absence of active pulmonary tuberculosis is very rare clinical entity. Here is a report of tonsil tuberculosis, presented with complaints of sore throat.

The oesophageal tonsil of the chicken is a novel member of the mucosal-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT), which is located around the entrance of the proventriculus. It consists of 6 to 8 single units, which are surrounded by a thin fibrous capsule. Each one is organised around the bottom of the longitudinal folds of the oesophagus, and serves as a 'tonsillar crypt'. Stratified squamous epithelium is infiltrated by lymphoid cells, i.e. T cells, plasma cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells, but not B cells, to form lymphoepithelium (LE). In the LE vimentin-, MHC II- and ATPase-positive cells

Schwannoma is a solitary, benign tumour arising from the neural sheath Schwann cells of the peripheral, cranial or autonomic nerves. In the head and neck region, it occurs most commonly in association with the acoustic nerve within the skull and is rarely found in oral structures. When it is found in oral structures, the tongue is reported to be the favoured site. Schwannoma of the tonsil is extremely rare, with only two cases reported in the literature. We report what is, to our knowledge, the third case of schwannoma of the tonsil, diagnosed by histopathology.

Recent studies have indicated the existence of an active cellular defence in the secretion on the tonsillar surface. This defence seems to consist partly of physiologically active neutrophils and is present in health and during disease. The present study was undertaken to examine the migration of these neutrophils to the secretion on the mucosal surface. Tonsils from 6 patients with acute tonsillitis and 5 patients with snoring problems were removed and sectioned. Sections were stained immunohistochemically against CD15 to visualise neutrophils. Other sections were stained with acridine orange…

Two cases of Kaposi's sarcoma presenting as tonsilar masses in HIV-positive patients are described. At the time of examination neither patient had other manifestations of AIDS. Both patients also had concomitant cervical lymphadenopathy at the time of presentation, but the tonsillar masses were the dominant clinical findings. Biopsy of both tonsils revealed typical features of Kaposi's sarcoma. Both patients subsequently defaulted treatment and have been lost to follow-up.
