It has been reported that cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) may play a crucial role in gastric ulcer healing. We examined the localization of COX-2 and the regulation of COX-2 mRNA expression in acetic acid ulcers in rats. PGE2 production was elevated in ulcerated tissue but not in intact tissue. COX-2 mRNA expression was induced in only the ulcerated tissue, and COX-2 protein was found in fibroblasts, monocytes/macrophages, and granulocytes. OBJECTIVE: Nafamostat mesilate (FUT-175), a synthetic serine protease inhibitor, has antitumor activities toward adenocarcinoma, e.g., colon … -2 and -9. In addition, it reduced the productions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-beta1) by the tumor cells.
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that Nafamostat mesilate has potential for use as a treatment against local growth, invasion and metastasis of squamous cell carcinoma.

The objective of the present study was to determine whether transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) regulates the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) and the tissue inhibitor of MMP (TIMP) in myometrial smooth muscle cells. OBJECTIVES: It was found that total flavonoids from Litsea coreana Levl. (TFLC), which is a traditional Chinese medicine, had a preventive effect against hepatic steatosis in our previous study. This study was designed to evaluate whether TFLC could improve liver fibrosis in rats.

The pathogenesis of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) is incompletely understood but it has been suggested that various cytokines may have a role in the process. In this study the profile of the cytokine Transforming Growth Factor-beta 1 (TGF-beta1) was investigated in the sera of 79 patients with various grades of dengue illness and in 21 normal healthy controls. Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta1) suppresses the growth of mink lung Mv1Lu epithelial cells, whereas testicular hyaluronidase abolishes the growth inhibition. BACKGROUND: Pancreatic fibrosis is a key pathological feature of chronic pancreatitis.
