BACKGROUND: Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is rare but can lead to life-threatening complications including cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT). The concurrence of CVT and SIH raises questions regarding priority.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 52-year-old woman who developed sudden left-sided hemiparesis and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. She experienced progressive orthostatic headaches over the prior 2 weeks. Imaging showed thrombosis in the left transverse and sigmoid sinuses, bilateral subdural hematomas, and a cervicothoracic cerebrospinal fluid leak. Low molecu

The normal gross anatomy and light microscopy of the human pericardium are presented in detail that allows easy correlation with current cardiac imaging modalities. The anatomical structures of the parietal pericardium are shown from its mediastinal surface, including its ligaments to the sternum, diaphragm and vertebral column. The attachments of the parietal pericardium to the great vessels showing the intrapericardial location of the root of the aorta and pulmonary artery are documented. Also the attachments of the parietal pericardium to the venae cavae and the pulmonary veins are illustra

A rare case of posterior fossa dural arteriovenous fistula with cerebellar circulation disorder is reported. A 64-year-old male was admitted to a hospital with complaints of nausea, vertigo and mild headache. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed cerebellar infarction. Then, he was sent to our hospital. He had complaints of cerebellar signs and nystagmus. Cerebral angiography showed dural AVF of the posterior fossa and occlusion of the left transverse-sigmoid sinuses. Because his condition deteriorated, embolization of the left middle meningeal artery, ascendin

The MR-venography of the veins and brain venous sinuses, brachiocephalic veins an internal jugular veins duplex scanning have been performed in order to study the distinctions of cerebral venous hemodynamics of healthy people and the patients with venous encephalopathy caused by the extravasal compression of the brachiocephalic veins at the neck level and the superior sections of mediastinum. It has been revealed that the blood flow reducing in transverse brain sinuses occurs not only in the case of outflow disorder in the distal sections of the venous system, but also in norm. This review suggests revisiting nose anatomy by considering the ethmoidal labyrinths as part of the olfactory nose and not as paranasal sinuses. Phylogenetically, the olfactory and respiratory organs of the most primitive vertebrates are separated. Exaptation, a mechanism of evolution, may explain the fusion of the olfactory and respiratory organs in dipnoi. The respiratory and olfactory noses remain anatomically separated by the transverse lamina in most mammals, whose olfactory labyrinth is a blind recess housing the ethmoturbinates. In humans, the partitioning between the olfactory cleft an

Dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVF) are abnormal acquired intracranial vascular malformations consisting of pathological connections located within the dura between the pial arteries and the veno vasora, comprising the walls of the dural sinuses, bridging veins, or transosseous emissary veins. Dural arteriovenous fistulas are distinguished from arteriovenous malformations by their arterial supply from the vessels that perfuse the dura mater and lack of a parenchymal nidus. They are most commonly situated at the transverse and cavernous sinuses. The mechanism of development behind dural arterio

AIM: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an unusual risk factor for cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). As few CVST patients with SLE have been reported, little is known regarding its frequency as an underlying etiology, clinical characteristics, or long-term outcome. We evaluated a large cohort of CVST patients with SLE in a multicenter study of cerebral venous thrombosis, the VENOST study, and their clinical characteristics.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: Among the 1144 CVST patients in the VENOST cohort, patients diagnosed with SLE were studied. Their demographic and clinical characteristics,

BACKGROUND: Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) is routinely used as a complementary technique to trans-thoracic echocardiography (TTE) for assessing thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA). However different measures can be obtained on CT and there are no recommendations on which to use. The objective was to determine which CT measurements most closely match reference TTE measurements in Marfan patients with TAA.
METHODS: TTE measurements were obtained using the leading edge-to-leading edge technique in end-diastole on the parasternal longitudinal view. ECG-gated CT measurements were obtained

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) accounts for less than 1% of cerebrovascular events worldwide and is associated with significant morbidity; in severe or anticoagulation-refractory cases, mechanical thrombectomy is considered, yet no consensus exists on optimal device selection. We report the case of a 32-year-old woman with a history of migraine and oral contraceptive use who presented with sudden-onset headache on awakening, disorientation, and right hemiparesis, followed by focal seizures and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) progression from 3 to 7. BACKGROUND: Elevation of bone for the treatment of depressed skull fractures overlying venous sinuses is rarely required or performed. The neurosurgical literature only describes a handful of cases of surgical intervention in which the posterior two-thirds of the superior sagittal sinus was involved. Clinical course is variable, signs and symptoms suggest increased intracranial pressure, and all conservative measures should be exhausted before proceeding with the surgical route.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 27-year-old man presented with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to posterior head. On presentatio

The objective of the study is to investigate the clinical features of Behçet's disease (BD) complicated with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). We retrospectively analyzed the clinical features of age- and gender-matched BD patients with and without CVST. Of the 840 BD patients enrolled, 21 (2.5%, 11 female, mean age 30.3 ± 9.5) were diagnosed as CVST. Eighteen patients (85.7%) developed neurologic manifestations after BD onset, with an average interval of 47.6 months (SD 36.1). Onset of neurologic symptoms was mostly progressive (89.5%), with headache (95.2%) being the most common sympt

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is an uncommon cause of stroke and can present in ways that closely resemble arterial transient ischemic attack or ischemic stroke. Early recognition is important because management differs from typical stroke pathways, and initial noncontrast head CT may be normal. We report a 63-year-old male patient with a history of remote pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension, and a family history of venous thromboembolism who presented with several weeks of headache and neck pain followed by acute left-sided weakness. Initial computed tomography (CT) imaging s

In severe cases, posttraumatic cerebral sinus thrombosis can result in venous congestion and persistent intracranial hypertension refractory to both conventional medical therapy and surgical decompression. The authors report a unique case of a patient successfully treated with endovascular mechanical thrombolysis using balloon angioplasty for clinically significant posttraumatic venous sinus thrombosis and review the reported treatments for cerebral venous sinus occlusive disease. This 18-year-old man suffered severe closed head injury from a fall while skateboarding. A head CT scan demonstrat

OBJECTIVE: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is characterized by elevated intracranial pressure without an identifiable cause, commonly affecting young obese women. While transverse sinus stenosis (TSS) and empty sella are frequent radiological findings in IIH, the relationship between the severity of empty sella and the extent of TSS remains poorly understood.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, authors analyzed patients with IIH diagnosed by established criteria in 2013-2023 and healthy controls matched for age, sex, and BMI. All patients underwent 3T brain MRI with contrast-enha
